Rumor is that is coming with kitkat at some point, and likely will now the developers have seen the software. Right now I guess the issue is that the device does the work, not the Chromecast, and it's very resource intensive

it does not only have to be apps

using the chrome plugin, you can cast whatever is on that screen

I casted movies from my PC to my Chromecast just fine. Just needed to lower the resolution to 480p, which is fine for 90% of the stuff I watch. Mediahint then lets me stream Hulu and US Netflix through my Chrome browser into my Chromecast. And of course Plex (through the browser, not the app).

Desktop casting is available on the Google Cast plug-in, but it's in Beta at the moment. I personally haven't tested it myself though. I'm sure they'll get it working eventually though.

Rumour right now is that they're working on not just replicating your desktop, but your Android device as well. So good things coming to us Chromecast owners!

I gave my girlfriend one of these a few months ago. She has it plugged into a pretty basic, 3 year old Vizio tv. So, I was pretty surprised to go over yesterday and see that when she went to play music on her phone and picked to chromecast it, it automatically turned on the tv and switched it to the correct hdmi outlet. I had no idea both the Chromecast or her TV had this kind of CEC functionality built in, very cool.

A prank I plan on playing is going to my neighbors house (who have a chromecast) logging into their wifi - then playing random music and youtube videos. Slayer cranked @ 3 am would be mildly funny.

CBC featured the Chromecast on a top Christmas gifts segment this past weekend. They didn't mention it was only available in the states.

That said, with Christmas coming I'm wishing I had bought more than one when I was in Montana!

I bought one off Amazon. It was $65 instead of $35, but that difference didn't seem like much in the grand scheme of things

Playing this on repeat, on high volume would be funny enough to justify any potential war driving charges.

I've had one for awhile and might pick up a couple more, wife shops in the US at least once or twice a month so easy to pick up. Will try and root the next one.

I did the advanced route trick where you send the Google DNS to an unknown IP destination and it works like a charm. Chromecast working great on my VPN network now.

I get a message to disable AP isolation, however I don't see this option in my router settings. I am on Telus and the modem model is v1000h. Can anybody help me with this?

There is an easy way to fix it.

On the chromecasts, there is no way to alter the DNS settings, they must go through googles servers in order for the chromecast to work properly.
Has anyone been able to fix this on a shaw Cisco router. I cannot find any options to change this and I can't create an ssh connection to it.

Except it isn't eligible for free delivery. Only stuff that has the Prime logo beside the name gets shipped free.

Yeah this thing just doesn't work at all now. Everything is on the same wireless network and all I get is "no casting devices found". Super f%** annoying.
