He hasn't been specific, but I am assuming some threat of physical violence was made.

The first email....

The end of the world as you know it...‏ (subject line)

be careful in choosing sides against your own in support of a lazy wh$re!

That's what really had me concerned... I read that and immediately assumed it's from her old job. There are other threats as well..

If I don't leave things alone, then my career in the Broadcast industry would be all but finished... Not that I believe whoever is writing, it's just a little bit freaky...

I don't really think that a cop would even really look into helping me, not that i'd expect him too as well.. Me finding out would be for my sanity only..

Maybe it's just me, but e-mails like that would only spur me on. Go check out the free legal aid links provided above, talk to your service provider about getting threatening e-mails, and talk to the police anyways.

You never should have replied to the original email(s). Getting involved in this cannot profit you in any way as far as I can tell, the issue would probably be dead by now if you had just ignored it.

Obviously that would've been the best course of action, unfortunately, I just couldn't resist writing back.

I should note that if a person quits a job, they don't usually get severance. Severance usually only comes into play if your er terminates you (without cause - like theft).

In case anyone has not suggested it, you might want to talk with the police. Barring that your other course of action could be to find a police officer who is currently suspended, as based on what I have seen on tv these guys can crack the most difficult cases. The other option is to hire yourself a crusty private investigator but it is costly back in the day Jim Rockford would charge $200 per day plus expenses....so with inflation......

Well pending how the OP responded to the emails criminal harassment comes to mind.

You should have definitely gone to the police. If youre planning on taking legal action you will have to at some point anyway. Responding and continuing to respond to the emails was probably the wrong move on your part.

I wanna know why you want to know who it is so bad without going to the police, as I cant imagine any good would come from it.

No. Criminal harassement wouldn't apply here.

The OP clearly has no safety concerns as he continued to initiate contact with the person.

Further, none of what he posted could even be construed as a "threat" in reference to a criminal offense.

This is ######ed. I can't believe we're still talking about such a non-issue.

Who said I don't like what's being said here? I've been following this thread daily. That doesn't mean it isn't ######ed, though.

I really want to know who this is, as the emails are very personal.

Any advice as to what I should do to locate them?

Thanks.

To be fair, any good advice has already been given. Noone on this forum will give him tips on how to illegally acquire personal information from an ISP.

It's getting a little ridiculous.

How is a salon going to end someone's career in broadcasting? Are they going to give them a sub-par non-camera-friendly haircut?

I see that as a criminal threat, although without more details it's difficult to really say for certain.

Either go to the cops or go to a lawyer and pursue the termination claim, cost should not be an issue as there are many options available.

Umm, then you clearly have no understanding of a threat in the criminal code.
