I shamefully finished the season this weekend. I really liked it. Better than the first season and better than Jessica Jones. And I enjoyed both of those.
The pacing was better. The action sequences were awesome. There was a lot going on but it didn't feel overwhelming.
It'll be interesting to see how they tie all the series together. Do we get another DareDevil season before the Defenders?
I better caution those of you with kids, some of those Punisher scenes are just violently brutal to watch
Spoiler!
like the irish mob boss getting shot in the face with a shotgun
and the drill going into the punisher's foot
and the punisher getting locked in that prison block and killing all of those inmates
Despite being a great series, i see so many holes:
Spoiler!
Why does Hollywood keep employing Korean actors, who are terrible at speaking Japanese, to play Japanese roles?
Just like that "Japanese executive" in that Huyndai commericial, the bosses' Japanese speaking had such a heavy Korean accent.
Some of you may be thinking "who cares?". Well, it's the equivelent of having an Asian TV show getting a Wild West Cowboy to cameo on one of their programs, but instead of getting someone from North America, they hire an Australian actor with an Aussie accent. Imagine him saying "Yeehaw"
Matt, what a sleazeball...
right after Karen calls it quits on Matt after she found out about Elektra, Matt goes back to Elektra in bed and tells her he wants to be with her. Way to captialize on a back up woman in case his first one didnt pan out... sleazeball...
and why the heck was Karen so upset to begin with? She spots Elektra in bed (whom was fully clothed might I add) but never thought to question why old man Stick was over at Matt's place?
When the Punisher entered the colonel's gun stash, why tease the audience with a shot of the mini gun when you're not going to have him use the mini gun? I was fully expecting him to unleash that thing on the hoards of hand ninja on that final rooftop fight
Also, didnt the Punisher claim he was a Scout Sniper? Theres a couple of scenes where he's sniping... he's supposed to lie down in a inconspicuous spot, yet he's standing like a Call of Duty noob aiming his sniper rifle.
Fisk should be out for next season as well. So you'll have a bigger dynamic to work with. Less Foggy for season 3 would be welcome IMO. And they kind of set the stage for that as Murdock pretty much said "Don't need a babysitter pal, move along".
Spoiler!
I actually appreciated Foggy's scenes as it showed Matt that his DD life was straining on the worklife.
Karen's scenes were annoying... it really made me wish the writers would've had Wesley kill her in season 1. It was so anti climatic to have Wesley die like that when you figured he would've been a great sub boss for DD to fight
also... Stick with the best line in the whole series:
Spoiler!
Stick: They found real treasure. Not like gold or rubies... They found the secret... Immortality, bringing the dead back to life
Matt: C'mon Stick...
Stick: I thought you were a Catholic Matty. Doesnt your whole belief system hinge on one guy pulling that off?
I think the relationship between her and Matt was forced from the beginning of the series. They always seemed to be pushing these small indications that they were going to get together, but there was no chemistry at all. Matt had a much better connection with Claire or Elektra. I'm glad it didn't work out between them, I hope it doesn't start up again.
I do think Karen is a good character and she reveals some important stuff with her research, just no interest in the love story side-plot. meh
So what is the deal with the ninjas from the Hand? Are they all immortal or zombies of some kind? The one they opened up was dead and autopsyed at some point.
I was really into it from the start but then it got really boring and cliched which is too bad. I think I have too much adult ADHD as my inner child should be enjoying this stuff but it isn't.
I stopped after the Punisher graveyard scene because I can't stand the actor and his monologue was so badly written and bored me to tears and I literally dozed off. It's just not the right characterization for me. Its like they went for budget Vin Diesel or something.
I also had major problems with how they shoe-horned in Karen and Foggy through the DA subplot. It's just a pretense to get them involved in the story but it doesn't make any sense. It's written almost as badly as Jessica Jones' "Gotta get into SuperMAX!" episode.
his righteous indignation went off the charts I wanted to punch him. But at least Matt finally said to Foggy hey, this is who I am and what I do. Deal with it.
The Following User Says Thank You to zamler For This Useful Post:
I'm on episode 9 and Karen just saw the file Ben had on her. I paused on the newspaper clipping and it was about the death of Kevin Paxton Page, I assume that is the brother she has recently started mentioning. Also in Season 1 Ben mentioned her past and she told Wesley that she had killed before. Did she kill her brother?
Watched the whole thing over the weekend. That long take stairwell fight scene was incredible.
As good as that was, Punisher's prison fight is my favorite of the series. So brutal, and the way he stands up covered in blood staring down the riot police looked straight out of a comic

It actually wasn't a long take not as impressive as season one. They cut away multiple times, every time the camera passed behind some black clothing, they mask a cut.
It surprises me that you weren't happy with the Punisher, Hack. I thought that, no matte what anyone thought of the season overall, that it would be pretty universal that he killed it.

Season one wasn't a long take either...They did the exact same thing.
Looks like the inevitable Daredevil/Jessica Jones cross over is coming soon. Dropping hints this entire season.
Can't wait. I might be in the minority but I love Foggy and if he's in Jessica Jones season 2, I will be thrilled. Also looking forward to Luke Cage and Iron Fist which both could be out this year.
Not sure what the Spider-Man deal between Marvel and Sony are, but it would have been cool to have a couple Easter eggs that show he is popping up in New York. If the timeline is right for Civil War, he should be becoming Spider-Man, or already be him, around now.
This was too much seeding other TV stuff for me, and not enough Daredevil. But then, I've never been a fan of The Punisher. But I enjoyed the season despite that.
I kind of wish we got to see Matt's reveal happen to Karen a little earlier in the season, or even a little earlier in the finale. I guess that's something to keep my interest piqued for Season 3.
