^^^ That was beautiful.

Reminds me of my favorite quote from Gandhi: "Be the change that you wish to see in the world."

A little simplistic, sure, but no less accurate or insightful. That is the only way to make a difference.

We've come a long way, even though it feels like things are much more violent and war is everywhere, the truth is quite the opposite. Says a lot about our media and how much fear based news is ruling our discourse.

Although I don't necessarily think peace is only the absence of war, this was a pretty good speech at the time.

I would agree that peace isn't the absence of war.

We had a relatively peaceful period of time with the Soviet Union, but I don't think that the worlds population living 60 minutes from complete annihilation was the definition of peace.

One of the issues of the concept of globalization or bringing the world together is it seems to be easier to bring people that don't like each other into easier conflict.

The concept of peace keeping to me is dead, we are going to have to enter a era of peace enforcement.

The whole 60's concept of if I could teach the world to sing is dead.

Mankind isn't wired for global co-existance and peace no matter how hard Gene Roddenberry wished it to be so.

I agree Cap, we have a long long time before we ever reach a point of co existence like we see in the Star Trek universe.

The realization of peace is still something that can be obtained. It won't happen overnight but as each person comes to terms with their own peace, it will affect the world's attitudes. As the fellow in the Ferguson video says, we've been trying the same old recipe over and over with the same result.

What, you mean a state of permanent war with an inscrutable and difficult to understand asiatic race? I don't think we're that far off.
