Do you know how big of a favour you would be doing for yourself if you throw those right in the garbage?

Allen Edmonds.

The <$200 shoes from the mall, are easily recognized as crap.

Would someone actually want a shoe to last 10+ years? You know, with changing styles, age, job position, taste, etc.

This probably doesn't help, but I hit up Nordstrom's rack once a year down in the US for any dress-type clothes I may need. A couple pairs of shoes, pants and a suit. Some years I hit it with Ecco or Bruno Magli at under $100 each.

They have a shoe size guide you can print on their site since you are unsure of your size.
2nd this. I was an Ecco guy for years, and then got turned onto Allen Edmonds and they are fantastic. Will set you back $400 if not on sale (or buy in the US) but last forever. Mine are leather soled, so get some decent shoe protectors (I use swims)

If your shoes are out of style in 10 years, you're buying the wrong shoes. Prince Charles has worn these John Lobbs for 40+ years:

My two favourite pairs of boots were first introduced in the 1940s.

Clarks desert boots are a good replacement for those sketchers and they are exactly as they were 60 years ago.

spend a little extra on shoes and then if you really like the shoes find a good cobbler (show repair)and take them in occasionally.

Pleasantly surprised to see the AE love on here. I buy my AE's from the Shoebank in WI. The shoes are factory seconds, meaning they have a minor blemish or something. Everything I have bought from them though I can't tell what was wrong with the shoe.

Email shoebank@allenedmonds.com and ask for a price list in your size. Need the width of your foot as well.

You can look up the different styles on their website that they have in stock at the shoe bank and pick one you like.

Call in and place an order and they will mail the shoes to you. Great way to save 50% or more.

Johnston & Murphy has some pretty choice shoes. I've got a beauty pair of saddles from there that have worn in just right. Highly recommended.

If your shoe maker hasn't been around for 50+ years, I wouldn't trust them. My opinion only, but it's a decent way to roll.

Come on man, it's a thread about dress shoes and you post these hiking/outdoor kicks? The copy from the Skechers page even goes to great lengths to explain just how "casual" these shoes are.

Take home the trophy for cool casual style in the SKECHERS Diameter-Heisman shoe. Smooth leather or oiled smooth leather upper in a sport casual slip on with stitching, overlay and perforation accents. Metal stud detail.

Smooth leather upper in a slip on casual moc design
These aren't even in the realm of clean/classic runners that can be dressed up a bit, I'd wager they'd be out of place in 99% of offices, even the cool ones where you can wear t-shirts & jeans.

Picked up a pair of Florshiems in the States a couple of years ago, some shoe warehouse type place, on sale for 100, at 50% off. Wish I had bought at least one more pair, theyve held up very well.
