Default Godless Apostate

Collection of stupid religion stories that annoy me.

Gay rights in Uganda are still no laughing matter

Papal resignation linked to inquiry into 'Vatican gay officials'

China has now banned reincarnation without state approval.

Pat Robertson said that "awful-looking" women are to blame for a romance-deficient marriages.

-----

Just to be clear, I don't come from any religion really. I follow Daoism which is really just a philosophy of how to live happily. I don't respect any irrational belief systems and especially ones as vile and wicked and divisive as the big monotheisms but I think there's a chance that I might actually have less respect for Christian moderates. The way I see it, if you're intellectually capable of embracing evolution by natural selection to explain the transition of life forms then you're intellectually capable of seeing that it completely destroys that whole "you're born a filthy sinner and responsible for that whole blood sacrifice thing in the desert 2000 years ago and therefore must pay your fine via the compulsory love and worship of someone who you don't even know existed" BS right out of the water. It's that simple.

I've always wanted to follow Daoism just because I saying "I seek the Dao." sounds cool.

How many atheists have you met that have tried to impose their views on you? Most non-believers tend to have a live and let live mentality. That is to say, "you can choose to believe whatever you want, just don't force your religious beliefs on everyone else by legislating them into law".

Is this a live and let live philosphy?

Spend much time on CP? The anti-religion vitriol that gets tossed around regularly on this site by a bunch of people who claim to be logical, tolerant, and progressive is astounding.

Yeah right. How do you know someone's athiest? Don't worry, they'll tell you. A lot of those guys are as bad as vegans.

Nice subtle spelling-nazi italics, there.

May as well call this thread what it is - a trumpet for all the enlightened non-believers to come have a circle jerk and expound about their disbelief that others might choose to put their faith in something else.

Actually this thread will be more about new and stories. Perhaps some good religious stories too. So in general is a discussion thread that we can learn from.

Or it's CP.

It's not a circle jerk and for the most part good discussions come out of it. FWIW MarchHare was asking a question and the last half of his question is a valid point.

Not mock and ridicule but you should be concerned about things that divide humanity. You should be concerned about evil that disguises itself as morality. You should be concerned about the war on science. I mean ultimately, the conversation about what's true and what's real is probably the most important conversation we can have.

I'm not sure what your end game argument is here. Do you want everyone to keep their opinions to themselves so we never talk about anything beyond the weather? That's not a world I want to live in. Try to please everyone and end up pleasing nobody.

Supposed anti-religion vitriol even if it exists still isn't imposing their views on others.

Imposing your views on others means not allowing them to retain their own views. It does not mean living free of criticism.

That this is even hinted at on a site where anti-Canucks or anti-Edmonton or anti-everyaspectoftheFlameswhentheylose vitriol flows daily is just stunning.

Yeah, having a thread (or a site even) where people who have similar ideas can come and talk about them is terrible.

Imagine if there was such a site that didn't deal with such an important topic as religion and instead dealt with something as trivial as sports! I mean cmon, that a bunch of people would come have a circle jerk and expound their disbelief that others might choose to cheer for another team...

Live and let live means being free of any mocking and ridicule?

People mock and ridicule each other, it's part of our primate heritage.

LOL Really? Yeah, I'm certain that's what you meant the thread for.

At least have the balls to stand by your condemnation and not turn tail when someone calls you on your crap. BS right out of the water. It's that simple.
