I don't get people who are squeamish about their nice shoes. I mean, sure, polish them, tree them, take care of them, but don't hide them. I keep mine under my desk at work but they're gonna get salt and crap on them in this city, it's inevitable. A well made, well cared for shoe laughs at that kind of "abuse". They're shoes, you don't need to baby them, and the fact that they're built to withstand whatever comes their way is part of the reason they cost hundreds of dollars in the first place.
A nice winter boot also laughs at that kind of "abuse". Plus, they're warmer too
10 days ago I ordered five pairs of Allen Edmonds shoes. Today I received an email from them stating that one of the pairs I ordered was out of stock. The shoes were on sale, and then 20% off, so I paid $198. They offered to replace that purchase with any shoe valued up to $365, so I got the newest version, recently released, at 45% off.
I've heard the AE customer service is excellent, and this confirms it for me. My shoes are still 8 weeks away from arriving, and I am pretty excited to receive them.

The Neumora Monk Strap was out of stock, so I am receiving the Franciscan Monk in black instead. I also ordered the Sanford Cap-Toe Oxfords in black and brown, and a light and dark brown Jermyn Dress Loafer.

a ad on facebook caught my eye with some trendy looking shoes : Robert Wayne
They are showing regular pricing between 70 and 150 and all on sale for more than half off with this Jackthreads ad that always pops up.
We have discussed numerous times and I know its split between people spending under 100 and replacing vs the people who like to spend several hundred and have them for a lifetime. I am in the latter group but feel as some of these are unique summer shoes.
Anyone have any experience?

Well I forgot to add shoe cream and polish to my order and now looking at tips as to what you guys use for protecting your shoes. It looks like it is quite the hassle to buy the AE branded stuff
Has anyone heard about the new Veritas Shoes Ltd in the +15 of the Hanover building? Apparently they will do a 3D scan of your foot, you choose the sole and colour of leather, and they'll build you "the most personalized custom shoe you've ever worn."
Only thing I could find is a job posting for them on Kijiji. I ask as I got my EServus newsletter today and they're offering $500 gift certificates for $100 for Veritas. Being an individual who has extremely difficult feet to find good shoes for, this very much piques my interest.
I got my "serious dress shoes" at Harry Rosen, a pair of Prada's and boy were they cheap, $700.
Let me guess, they are the most uncomfortable shoes you have ever worn?
I only ask because I have a pair of Gucci shoes that retail for the same, and they look good but suck to wear so I think I have worn them less than a dozen times. I got them for 70% at Holt so no biggie I guess.
I also have a pair of Boss Red labels I got in NYC and again they are good looking shoes but suck to wear. So they sit under my desk most of the time.
Best pair of dress shoes I have ever bought are a pair of "Too Boot New York" loafers from a Baney's outlet in Hawaii. I am sold on the loafers now, fully pulling a Letterman and rocking them everyday here on out.

Where does one get dress shoes for wide feet? Like.. ridicuously wide. And what style? I always end up with the bunt toes and they're starting to look stupid.
Shoe Company is great if you can find a great brand that fits you.
Got some Ecco's there for $150 that lasted a good year as my principle dress/work shoe and more than another year after that in more casual use with a little care and polishing.
Ecco's are an extremely well made brand in my opinion and very comfortable.
The most important principle for selecting dress shoes is budget, comfort/fit and quality. A guy needs five pairs of dress shoes - one for each weekday at the office to make sure you let your shoes rest for a week after wearing them. You also need a $25 pair of cedar shoe inserts for every pair of dress shoes you own to eliminate odours and preserve the shape.
It does not make much sense buying one pair of $400 Allen Edmonds wingtips, if that's all you can afford at the moment. There are decent $120 shoes on the market and there are good sales event occurring periodically. $120 pair of Kenneth Cole or Johnston Murphy leather shoes would not give you a full 1/2-inch leather sole, but a good rubber comfort sole and full leather insole. Not a bad deal and decent value for one or two years of the shoe life.
