Throw down shards of glass on your front walkway and get a couple of those things that allow you to plug six items into an outlet and then run multiple extension cords from it
Leave underwear lying around everywhere.

It's likely to keep the guaranteed replacement cost on the home. It will probably be an appraiser that will look at it to make sure that it is insured properly should there be a total loss. It is fairly normal for them to send someone to inspect.

I would use this an opportunity to shop it around.

Try and get another insurer to come out at the same time.

Really that is what Morgex should be doing, but now I type I am not sure they are a true independent broker.
I would ask for a copy of the inspection.

Exactly, if they had more time and people it would happen more often also.

I had this happen once and ended up switching my insurance company. The company at the time sent out an inspector with a days warning. He told me that I needed to get my electrical panel upgraded from 60 amp and to get an engineer to look at a crack in my foundation in order to get it fixed. Well, my house at the time was built in 1906 with a dug out basement, so the crack visible from the outside was literally feet from the inside of the wall. I had an electrician look at my panel, who told me that the box on the power pole was also 60 amp and that it was a way bigger job and he was unable to do it. A friend of me told me to contact the insurance company he was with and over the phone I got it switched with no new inspection and no upgrades or useless repairs.
I agree with your wife. For some reason I think they want to find a reason to no longer insure you. If I remember correctly, the company providing the insurance was Remax (?) and shortly after I don't remember them being in the insurance business. Maybe I'm misremembering that....

I am sorry why?
This makes no sense. What does she think will happen?

She doesn't understand this demand to come into the house and is sceptical of their motives. I have a friend with a son in property insurance. I think I'll call him for advice.

At the end of the day, they are looking to confirm the risk that they are insuring. At one time, there was a requirement for all risks to be inspected (a long time ago).

For some reason many people do not understand the full disclosure obligations of an insured to the insurer.
If you have an insurance policy that was issued based on the risk as you explained it to them in your application and you left out things that would materially affect the risk (like say a substandard electrical panel that you were told about by an insurance inspector and decided by yourself it was a 'useless repair'), then you have a piece of paper but not likely an insurance policy that will pay if you need to make a claim.
There are obligations for an insurer to do due diligence in their underwriting practices as well if they do not want to end up obligated to pay for a risk they did not want to cover.
If you refuse to allow them to inspect the property you are asking them to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to replace in the event of a claim I suspect they will no longer be interested in insuring your house.

Should he also crudely fabricate some sort of 'combat ring' in his basement? Maybe he could sell tickets to other insurers or ill-repute?

Paint a pentagram in the basement. Get a goat, slit it's throat in the pentagram. When the inspector arrives, tell him it's all good, you've got it covered.
