Conroy's name is coming up in several media outlets to fill the Buffalo Sabres general manager vacancy after Tim Murray was fired.

The 45-year-old Potsdam native, former Clarkson star and current Calgary Flames assistant general manager is considered a rising star in NHL front office circles and has helped put together a strong young roster in Calgary.

Local news station in New York. A few other NY-based outlets are also reporting.

At least this would mean Treliving would be safe, but it would still suck to see Conroy go.

Was just reading about this earlier. Sounds like the Sabres ownership is being extremely tight lipped about this so I haven't found any rumours from credible sources, whether they be about Lombardi, Conroy or someone else, so it's probably nothing at this point. But regardless, even having his name come up in a GM search is huge.

As much as I don't want to lose him, seeing a guy like that grow and succeed makes me so happy. Conroy is an absolute beauty and deserves every bit of success and opportunity he gets, so if this is what he wants, I hope the rumours are true

With him being under contract I am guessing the flames would need be be asked first. I am also guessing if Buffalo does want him it needs to get done sooner rather than later so he can do the draft.

I love Conroy, and for that reason I'd be more than happy for him to go to Buffalo as their main GM. I'd hate to see him go, but does he ever deserve it and I think as a Flames fan you have to want him to get this job (as weird as it sounds).
