Agree on all points but Klimchuk's shot. He has an NHL shot IMO. Like Monahan, it's not hard but it's very accurate.

Went with Rittich,
As optimistic as we should be about Poirier and his positive life decisions, his trajectory is still uncertain. Rittich came off a solid season and has tangible results to prove his development.
Not to mention his is the more valuable position.

Pretty good horse race here between Poirier and Rittich. I went with Poirier.

I went with Poirier cause it seems he's got it all back together, but I can see the argument for Rittich and would probably swap them if I could do it over.

If Phillips was 3 inches taller (or more) he'd be a very highly touted prospect

Went with Shinkaruk this time around - hoping he finally puts it together, stay healthy, and becomes dangerous and impactful at pro level. Lethal offensive potential.

Yeah that's why I can't get toooo excited about him. But still I've learned never to count out the small guys lately.

A player with 80% of the talent level of Gaudreau could still make a good 2nd liner. Phillips is the same height as Theo Fleury. If Phillips doesn't shy away from contact he should be fine.

To be fair, there are quite a few legitimate NHLers who are less talented than Gaudreau.

How many are Gaudreau's size?
If he were only 80% of his talent level, Gaudreau wouldn't be in the NHL. If Phillips doesn't grow (he's smaller than Johnny, listed at 140 lbs.) or become at least as talented as Gaudreau, he won't be in the NHL. I hate to make definitive statements like that, but it wasn't a sure thing for Gaudreau to be an NHLer and he has elite skills.
I'm not counting Phillips out entirely, but he does have a big uphill climb ahead of him.

When Gaudreau was drafted he wasn't a sure thing, but after his 3rd season at college it was quite clear to me at least that he would be an NHLer and a good one at that. I also disagree that a 80% talented Gaudreau couldn't be an NHLer. Wouldn't be a 1st liner but would find a spot in the line-up somewhere.

When you look at successful NHLers in and around Philips, they're all 30-40 pounds heavier. It's insane.
Cam Atkinson, listed as 5'7 172, Mats Zuccarello 5'7 179, Brian Gionta 5'7 178.
Lil Matthew has a bit of growing to do.

Exactly, you can be short in the NHL, but you better be somewhat thick. Gaudreau is still fairly thin for his height to be in the NHL. It's his hands, vision, and skating ability that save him.

And more to that point, the players I mentioned are all gifted with talented skill sets. There are many other players of that height who wash out because they lack the requisite ability, or guys like Desharnais (5'7 175)or Gerbe (5'5 170) who have fought every step of the way to eke out a greasy professional career. Obviously nothing wrong with this but if Phillips is to fulfill everyone's idealized end point he has to put on a ####load of weight and consistently compete at a high intensity level.
Gaudreau, at 155 or whatever he weighs is an exceptionally talented player who proves to be slightly outside the norm suggested above.

I haven't seen enough of Phillips, but I wonder if a Steve Sullivan would be a good comparison as what he could be. Probably somewhere between Sullivan and Brandon Kozun. He is a pt/gp AHLer so far.
