Here is my guess as to what I missed today

- a five minute interview with some college basketball coach
- 10 minutes of Jim Rome talking about what a great interview it was
- a couple of callers who get cut off right away
- 2 hours of OJ talk, or as Jim Rome likes to call him, Orenthal

Seems to me that nobody likes Jim Rome. Everybody loves his show or can't stand it. To me, he just rest on his laurels. He hasn't come up with a new idea in decades.
Another 20% of his show is talking about the upcoming Smack-Off, which only has a $5000 prize.

Boomer doesn't even hide his disdain for other sports like basketball, tennis, heck he's not even really a football guy to which there's really no excuse if you are working in this business.

The reason an ex-player like Warrener is good on the morning show is because he has at least valid opinions on hockey related stuff. When it's just Boomer and Pinder it's a lot of nonsense and bad sports talk.
I had turned the 960 morning show off for quite a while. I turned back on recently and its the same crap as before. It often seems 12 or 20 minutes pass of BS chatter with no mention of sports.

Boomer seems like the highschool class clown that has a couple of loser tag alongs that find him funny but everyone else cant stand him.

They cant anything but hockey. The anti-NBA schtick is embarrassing and to do it during the playoffs makes the show a joke.

Loubardias sucks. He should have been a church preacher. Probably would have made a great one. Seriously.

Can't forget Jim Rome playing the same clip 18 times in 10 minutes. Can't believe anyone can listen to him, he's not knowledgeable about sports and rarely talks sports. I don't get the "he talks about other sports", he rarely adds anything of value about sports.

He talks about sports figures who get into trouble with the law. Pretty much exclusively.

Here is a preview of todays show

- some college football coach hired a prostitute
- more talk about OJ (I guess some people didn't get tired of it 20 years ago)
- promote upcoming smack off (thanks 1qqaaz)

When I first heard him on 66CFR it was cutting edge and nobody had heard anything like it. 25 years later it's the exact same schtick though. I got sick of it about 24 years ago.

Richards talked a lot about different sports but I found his knowledge pretty superficial. I think the present guys all have a way better knowledge of hockey, and actually have inside Flames info, which Richards never did.

It's true that outside of NHL, Blue Jays and possibly a bit of CFL, the present guys don't really cover sports. But I kinda like them.

I used to used to listen to 960 for around 6 hours a day 10 years ago. I even subscribed to Rome for a while to listen to shows I missed or wanted to hear again. At the time, I thought Jim Rome and Jay Mohr were the peak of sports radio and would make sure to listen as much as I could. Over time though, since they didn't change, I got bored and discovered the magic of the iPod.

Now I rarely listen to 960, and when I do have Rome on, it sounds like I just went into a time machine. Same jokes, same sound bites, same repetitive nature to his "arguments".

Embrace Debate!

For fresh 'embrace debate', listen to Pardon My Take podcast. basically a parody on this old school attitude.

It's weird, as he's hilarious during the 6-9am morning show and he's my favourite guy on there (I like all of them though), but yeah his 9-10am show is pretty boring. It's just not the same dynamic at all. During Flames season, I'll keep listening past 9 to catch Pinder's opening segment with Derek Wills, then after that I'll generally shut er down.

Yeah Pinder is definite host material, and a good one at that. Unless some other shining star rockets up the SNET radio charts out of nowhere in coming years, I'd be shocked if Pinder isn't hosting his own show in Toronto on Fan 590 in the next 3-5 years. He's definitely a talent, and I like his ability to play both the loud goofball on the morning show, and locked in, serious stats guy by himself.

I'm a daily morning show listener (save for summer), and sometimes when he does Flames games at night I don't even recognize his voice at first because he's playing such a different role, he's all biz in that slot. He plays both roles well.

I'm really only into hockey and the Flames, so listening to the morning show suits me just fine. I don't care much for any other sport, so the more hockey talk, the better. To each their own.

Richards is back on the air as a featured weekly guest on the Sportsnet960 afternoon show.

Steve Armitage and "SWEATPANTS WITH GOOD SHOES" made its return.

I find the morning show refreshing. (When Rhett is on) the chemistry of the three guys is great. Its nice to drive to work in the morning and have a bit of humor to start your day vs the same old takes on hockey and the Flames.

I get its a sports station, but come on? you have the afternoon, the evening and the after game show for all the redundant insight you can handle. Not to mention the god awful fan call ins on the post game show.

Man Rogers sure is trying its damnedest to force feed the Blue Jays on us. I like the Jays but the noon hour is must-turn-off radio at it's finest.
