Default Mason MacDonald Update

This thread is being started early, but I was just reminded by the CB Eagles play-by-play man that PEI is in town this weekend (Friday and Saturday).

Mason MacDonald will likely start one if not both of those games. The game will be broadcast on http://www.eagle1035.com/ and I'll give updates (might not make Friday's game).

I'll bump the thread come Friday.

Here's to two 1-0 Eagles wins.

Will McDonald not be at Flames camp? Or are they assuming he will sent back to junior by that point?

The Flames play two split squad pre-season games on the 21st. They'll need 4 goalies on their roster (at least). I can't see McDonald being back in the Q by then.

Hiller, Ramo, Ortio, and Thiessen are all under contract for this season. Doug Carr also has an AHL contract for this season (I don't know if that means he can participate in camp).

Just a heads up, the QMJHL is testing a new streaming service and is giving free streams for the month of September so you can watch these games here:

Full disclosure, I have today off work so I had a few beer to relax last night and my buddy texted me about the games next weekend.

The thought of training camp never entered my mind. So maybe he won't be back.

I didn't realize the streaming thing, I'm gonna look further into that. Thanks.

I'll be seeing around half of the Charlottetown home games this season so I'll report in on Mason's progress.

Despite being outshot by the Titan last night, Mason was solid in getting a win. The Islanders were trapped in their own end a number of times so the win was a bit of a surprise.

I think it was equipment related. He stood on the bench and then came back in. It had fans scratching their heads.

Mason was brilliant tonight in a 2 to 1 victory for the Islanders over Val d'Or Foreurs. He stopped 38 of 39 shots and demonstrated everything I like about him: rebound control, great glove hand, ability to concentrate and pick pucks out of a jumble of arms and legs, excellent positioning and lateral movement, and poise. He picked a good night to shine against the excellent Val d'Or squad as Flames Director of Player Development, Troy Crowder, was present. Crowder was interviewed at intermission and was VERY complementary about the kid. Oh, by the way, McDonald was first star.

I forgot to mention that I saw McDonald warming up outside the arena on Friday with the rest of the team just outside the back entrance I use. They were knocking a soccer ball around. I walked up behind him to get a closer look. I'm 6'1" and he's way taller than me. I suspect he's more than 6'4" now.

This is great having an Islanders fan giving us his reports. Thank you.

When I interviewed him at the dev camp, he was a shade taller than me and I'm 6-3.

Mason got another win last night against the Titan (final score was 4 to 1). He made approximately 30 saves and only gave up one dangerous rebound which a teammate corralled. Another solid performance.

McDonald got a 2-1 win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles this afternoon and was third star. He made about 35 saves (the number I see in the paper the next day never seems to exactly match that on the game shot clock).

Mason, beat the Mooseheads last night 4-1, 36 saves. Not to shabby.

With Ortio and Gillies struggling, maybe McDonald is not such a long shot to make the NHL after all.
