Technically almost any remote can control you Apple TV. You generally need to set it up first though. Are you saying it just does it by default?

Yeah. It was weird. My kids just started using the Samsung remote to navigate around the AppleTV. I had no idea until I caught them watching TV after I had hidden the AppleTV remote.

It'll be less cute when they find a way with porn.

In other news, it appears those laptops that nobody wanted are selling mysteriously well. https://9to5mac.com/2016/11/09/2016-macbook-pro-sales/

"Well" might be the understatement of the quarter.

I think a huge part of that is the fact that they haven't updated it in forever, so everyone and their dog was waiting for the update so they could get a new one.

I love that it comes in 2 sizes, like the bigger one costs $100 more to print. So Apple.

I get that Apple has fans, especially of their designs over the years, so the book sort of makes sense.

But having two sizes available turns this into full Onion territory.

Teardown of the new MBPs, upgradability is completely gone as the SSD is now soldered in place as well.

Oooooof course it is.

Sadly looks like I'm going back to PC after my current mac dies.

I resemble this remark. I've been a long time mac user and have been waiting for the new mac pros to upgrade, but have now decided to go back to a PC. I miss Steve Jobs.
On the bright side, there are some awesome PC laptops out there now.

Any of you Apple defectors consider running Linux? (I have a 2015 MacBook Pro, so no defecting just yet for me), just putting it out there for fellow Windows haters. I've heard Linux on laptops can be pretty hit or miss, with some occasional driver issues and poor battery life.

But also that there are certain set of Laptops that run Linux well. The Dell XPS 13 always seems to come up for professional users that don't want an Apple product. Also, Lenovo ThinkPads are often recommended.

It's not the hardware making me not want to switch, I just really like the mac OS. The PC hardware is generally pretty superior anyway.

I'm half tempted to make a desktop 'hackintosh' for my next computer.

So our production house is looking to add to our 2013 Mac Pro editing suite setup...stupid Apple left it for dead...we're starting to work with 8k footage now and this old trash can isn't cutting it.

Has anyone had experience with a Hackintosh? We love macOS - but the hardware is seriously ####.

I have been tempted to do this as well but I have never even tried looking up what the steps would be.

I am a mac user as well but both 1 of my servers runs windows and the OS upsets me daily on how it communicates with my other mac products.

I am being murder by Apple incompatibilities right now, these "new" mac pros are a major pain. I am now looking to move all of our software over to Linux based systems.

What programs are you running, Resolve, Adobe, AVID, Smoke/Flame?

Looking at my set up when I'm editing photos on my macbook.. what a nightmare it would be a new Macbook Pro. No MicroSD, no MDMI for second monitor, no USB for either hard drive or wireless mouse. I also rarely if ever look down at my keyboard once I get used to the set up, that's probably most people as well. That touchbar seems like mobile technology that makes no sense on a lap top.

Ah well, hopefully Windows can continue to step up. Windows 10 on my Asus laptop is actually pretty great.
