There is lots of great resources online for this.

Like most things knowledge is power.

Current "Cap" is $5,020, for applicable MVC's in the 2017 calendar year.

Alberta Finance has lots of information:

Your policy has coverage for injuries sustained as a result of the accident, this is under Section B or Medical Benefits (synonyms). Make sure you confirm with your insurance company that you wish to open a claim for those costs, there is documentation you need to complete.

I think the biggest thing to remember is to address your physical need/injuries. It sounds like you are only feeling minor issues, which at the end of the day is the best result.

When dealing with the other insurance company be truthful and straight forward. I reckon that most minor injury claims can be handled directly with the at fault insurer. There is plenty of information online to educate yourself. Ultimately, if you are not happy with their final settlement offer you can review it with a lawyer.

Be careful when getting a lawyer though because you will often end up with injuries you didn't even know you had like TMJ . . .

Pffft TMJ Dysfunction is a fools game.

Tinnitus is where it is at, can't test for it, can't treat it. All self reported.

The personal injury cap which is being discussed in this thread is not so straightforward as is being suggested.

The insurer will always mention it, but they know it only applies in particular circumstances.

Consult a lawyer. It doesn't cost anything and someone knowledgeable and ethical (like Vlad) will start you down the right path. He might even recommend you deal with the insurance company directly if appropriate, as opposed to retaining him.
