All of this assumes Trump would begin with a barrage of airstrikes. (The U.S. does have limited ground troops already in Syria to fight ISIS, too.) One question is whether the president would pursue a quick strike and then attempt to extricate himself, or try something more sweeping. When Obama was toying with action, he very publicly pursued a limited strategy. Secretary of State John Kerry was widely mocked for saying any attack would be “unbelievably small,” but Kerry’s attempts at reassurance pointed to the central dilemma: What could a highly limited attack really achieve? Obama concluded the answer was not enough. If Trump decided for a small effort, what would the objective be? To kill Assad? And if it didn’t work immediately, what would he do next? Expand his fight? The risk of getting drawn into a protracted war is no less than it was in 2013.

i'm not exactly sure what the answer to the situation in Syria is, but i'm not sure more bombs are going to make things better. i'm quite uneasy about this, mainly because Trump.

Hey, Jeffe, you're right! The article I read said US coalition killed more than ISIS or Russia. So, I trusted my memory and thought I read andSyrian Government. Oh well.

My biggest problem with taking out Assad, is what happens with the power vacuum after. I hope the world learned something from Iraq.
Not that I'm advocating not taking out Assad, I'm just concerned about the day after.

They should have bombed the Presidential Palace in Damascus. Assad needs to die a slow and painful death.

This has to be thought through. You just can't indiscriminately bomb another country without some plan. What is the strategy here? This makes no sense. This is going to disrupt the balance within the region and make the ISIS issue that much more complex.

Get rid of Assad but leave the regime in place, looks good and Russia stays happy. Hahahaohgod.
US warned Russia, did Russia warn Assad so they could move their jets and stuff making this not much more than a warning shot? Would we even know if they had?

Hopefully someone like Ausama Monajed takes over and not some religious freak bent on making Syria another Saudi Arabia.

As sad as that it may seem, that is the only country this really helps out. What benefit does this have to American national security? None. Zero. What existential threat does any of the parties involved in Syria project to the United States? There is no benefit to this strike. Conversely, Russia is already embedded and will be able to assume control if Assad is removed. Added bonus is they get to sell replacement weapons to Syria for whatever the Americans destroy. Trump going all Trump does nothing to forward American interests.

We might.
Syrian military officials appeared to anticipate Thursday's night raid on Syria's Shayrat airbase, evacuating personnel and moving equipment ahead of the strike, according to an eyewitness to the strike.
Dozens of Tomahawk missiles struck the airbase near Homs damaging runways, towers and traffic control buildings, a local resident and human rights activist living near the airbase told ABC News via an interpreter.
http://abcnews.go.com/International/...ry?id=46641107
The eyewitness believes human casualties, at least within the civilian population, were minimal, as there was no traffic heading toward the local hospital.
One hopes.

It started out with the Muslim Brotherhood being the opposing force, who knows how they would be, in charge. who even knows what's going on now. With Russia and Iran backing groups, its a mess.

So Trump bombed an abandoned airbase? That's a good use of 50 tomahawks and $60-100 million in tax payer dollars.

Is this the beginning of something bigger or just a one time strike and show of power and force.

Assad breached the convention against using chemical weapons. Again.
There has to be accountability.
