Default Anyone into Archery?

I used to be years ago. Use to shoot competitively but that's got to be almost 20 yrs ago at this point. I'd like to get back into it but have absolutely no idea what is considered a decent bow these days.

I was at Cabelas last week and saw they also carry take down re curves, I'd like to get one of those but ultimately I'm after a new compound bow. Don't want anything cheap but don't need anything high end either, just something to take to the indoor range in town and shoot from time to time at my cabin.

Wish I could use my old one but draw length is just a tad too short.

Is using a cross bow still 'archery'?

That actually does look fun. I guess they'd frown upon people showing up with a real bow?

Calgary Archery Centre. Great knowledgeable staff and plenty of time to shoot.

This sounds more creepy than it is but how old is your daughter?

I have 8 and 9 year old boys who want to try archery.

under the cool starry bra category we had an archery event here at work yesterday. we went to the archery ctr just off of 52nd st se. I was stunned at how big this place was complete with what appeared to be a pretty well stocked store.

I can say after shooting arrows for a while, that I am not into it and I am not an archer and likely never will be

12 but has been shooting since she was 8. I don't know a thing about archery but she does enjoy it.

I just started shooting at Jim Bow's this past November. I bought a Bear Cruzer from Cabela's on sale Boxing Day for $350. It's worked great for me so far but I've only managed to get out and shoot it three times since I've had it. I asked around at Jim Bow's and they had suggested the PSE Stinger but its around $525 and my wife was not about to let me spend that much on something I was just starting to get into.

The Cruzer is pretty much a beginner bow with adjustable draw weights from 5 to 70 pounds, draw length adjustable from 12" to 30" and the package I bought came with a four pin sight, stabilizer, whisker biscuit, peep sight, nock loop and quiver. Arrows were extra. Shoots great, very little vibration, and quiet. I hear its good for hunting but that's something I won't ever be trying.

I asked at Jim Bow's for my son who's 6 but they said the youngest age they'll let shoot is 10. But I've seen kids there that look younger than 10 shooting, so who knows.

The Jr program allows for younger kids but to just go and shoot I think the age limit is 10 there. The Calgary Archery center has a jr program too and allows for younger shooter i believe.

I use to do it years ago, early 90's, and really enjoyed it. Always thought about trying again but time is limited these days.

Last summer I was at a party for my wife's show, the girl hosting was the archery tech on Arrow. She has a massive range in her backyard with all sorts of targets setup, stationary targets as well as moving animal ones. She also had about 30 or 40 bows to try as well. It was really cool. The longbow was awesome, around 6 feet long. Absolutely amazing to shoot, so much power.

A range in her backyard? I assume she lives out in the country? Having a range in your backyard would be sweet.

She lives in the south end of Burnaby but she does have an acre or so. Weird little spot that feels like the boonies though.

Doesn't really show the range, just parts of it. The one pick is a dude about to stand up with a girl on his shoulders, both shooting. He also shot a flaming arrow and lit two of 5 tiki torches. It was pretty cool.
