Getting one of these would be better:

In the interest of providing something useful, the best Canadian online hockey retailer IMO is The Hockey Shop: http://www.thehockeyshop.com

They do massive clearances during Black Friday, Boxing Day, etc... I only shop for goalie gear but I imagine there are good deals to be had with players stuff as well. Check their clearance section.

Stick wax is useless. Used it once, made no discernable difference, never used it since.

What were you looking for it to do?

Really it's only purpose is to prevent ice buildup, it really has no benefit to puck handling.

Stick wax helps reduce snow accumulation on your blade. This may or may not improve your stick handling. I use it.

It's not going to turn you into Johnny Hockey overnight.

I use wax too, it does indeed help prevent snow buildup on the blade and also seems to protect the tape to some extent. I find I do not need to re-tape very often. I am actually using some old cross country ski wax that I found laying around the garage so it goes on pretty thick.
