A good Ft McMurray boy, watched him play minor hockey and then with the AJHL Oil Barons. Missed all of last season with a back injury. He wasn't the first Ft McMurray boy to lace them up in the NHL, but he was certainly the best. A solid career. All the best, Chris.

Sad to see him go. It's crazy to think there's only a handful of players in the league that played in the 90's left standing. Could you even make a full team out of them?
Jagr, Iginla, Cullen, Marleau, Thornton, Doan, Elias, Zubrus, Hossa, Lecavalier (probably retired), Legwand, Boyle, Tanguay, Gomez, Stuart. Ribero, Fisher, Campbell, Rozisval, and Luongo. I believe that's all the players left from then.

I remember when he was dealt to the Lethbridge Hurricanes at the WHL trade deadline, he joined an already good team and made them better. He simply stuck out in a very good way and the 'Canes made it to the Memorial Cup final game that year but came up short.
Too bad he had to be a bridesmaid. Losing in the Memorial Cup and losing in the Stanley Cup. I always liked Phillips, it would have been nice to see him win.
Also pretty rare to spend that many years playing for the same team. One of the few to play his entire career, and a long career too, for the same franchise.
Our Dads worked together, it was very sad that he had pretty much lost his eyesight by the time Chris made the bigs. He played an extra year in the AJHL to wait for his sis to graduate from University so someone would be there to look after their parents.

That happened for me long ago, Robert Niilson was the first years ago, Nylander and Domi recently.
Yeah, Robert Nilsson and if I'm not mistaken, Ryan Suter in the same draft were the ones that really made it official that I was starting to age.
I don't remember Kent Nilsson's draft because he was was an Atlanta pick and I was still pretty young. I don't particularly remember Gary Suter being drafted either, being he was a late round pick for Calgary, although I remember that draft well as it was the Mario show.
I sure do remember Nilsson's first year here though and Suter winning rookie of the year a few years later.
I've always liked him and thought he was somewhat underrated. The guy didn't put up tons of points but he just played a good all around game. I'm happy he only played for the sens, he seemed like a classy guy.
