I don't know why everyone is obsessed with the Hall play.

But if we have to compare them, I thought this was worse, Hall is sort of a star and Kassian is a plug, and Doughty is a star.

This play should be judged on its own merits. And on its own merits two games is fair. Surprising, I figured a fine at most, but fair.

The right call. It was a dirty play and anyone who says otherwise is a homer who needs to take the goggles off. Complaining about this suspension or trying to justify this hit is precisely what other fan bases will use to make fun of us.

The reffing/discipline system sucks league wide. Other players might get away with it, but that's no excuse for what he did. This time the wheel of justice landed on him.

I still love him. Even a dick gets into trouble sometimes.

This really sounds like you're saying one is worse because of who it was, and if that's the case, your take is as laughable as the NHL's inconsistency.

Will someone please show me the video that has the elbow initiating contact with the face of Doughty. I want to be on board with this, but it looks like a crazy dive to me. The player was uninjured on the play.

So I guess we both should have clarified that we were speaking about star players eg "this league does not take hits to the head of star players lightly" and "I want to complain about the disparity in punishments when infractions are made against 4th line fodder vs the top players on other teams"

Don't kid yourself that Hall elbowing a nothing player like Kassian is relevant on the same tier as Tkachuk elbowing top 10 defenseman Drew Doughty. All sports leagues protect their stars. Don't be naive.
To be fair, you didn't really discuss that in good faith with AC. You directly stated that the league takes head shots seriously, then when AC addressed that you responded that the league protects it's stars and not be so naïve.

I get your points, but those two points you made contradict each other and AC was only pointing how ridiculous the league (and every league really) is for being that way, rather than being naïve.

It's strange, but there seems to be a small contingent of Flames fans who are unable or unwilling to admit it was an intentional, dirty play.

Yeah, based on just this play, 1-2 games is what should have been expected. But pointing out the inconsistencies with the NHL and the DoPS is a legitimate complaint. Beat to death, sure, but legitimate

No this was worse on its own merits. The status of the players is kinda silly, but it's just what the NHL does.

I agree with everything said in the explanation video, but given what other similar and worse plays have received, 2 games seems excessive.

This is the same punishment that Trouba got for his hit on Stone last month and Stone missed two games after leaving that one. Doughty didn't even miss a shift (although, he likely would have if it had happened with more time on the clock).

Where in the NHL rule book does it state harsher penalties will be handed out for infractions involving players deemed as "stars"? No consistency at all at the NHL office.

Yep, spot on.

Right or wrong that's obviously the case with this league, and always has been.

I don't dispute the play being dirty, but I struggle with the league issuing a suspension for something that the on ice official didn't deem to be worthy of a penalty.

They were both intentional, and the fact one wasn't even reviewed is a joke.

People are right to be pointing to it as a laughable example of the NHL's inconsistency.

I have no problem with Tkachuk being punished for what was a dirty play, but it's the inconsistency that makes this entire situation stink.

I think they are extremely consistent at punishing based on star status actually.

I saw it yesterday during the game and thought he was def going to be suspended. I assumed 1 game would have been the suspension, and would have been the right amount in my opinion. He got 1 game too many in my eyes, but oh well.

It was only a matter of time before Tkachuk ended up suspended, given his on-the-edge style of play.

Perhaps Klimchuck gets the call-up. He's had a good season.
