Depending how much deadening you want I suppose. I used roxul and two layers of drywall. Main thing I heard from contractors is having some airspace between the layers as well.

Corner lot with oversized (wide) driveway.

looking for an automated snow clearing option on a budget <$500 or used).

Whats better, a sweeper or snow plow? Can either be stored outside?

I am closing conditions on an apartment that is fairly dated. I plan on replacing the 5 major appliances and just wondering if the IKEA sales that are going on are worth it or if I should stick with some different companies? I would be looking at mid-level products:
dishwasher
oven with range
hood fan (not vented outside unfortunately)
fridge/freezer combo
washer and dryer (stack able)

IKEA's current deals are $200 GC per every $1000 spent or buy 2, get the 3rd appliance free (least expensive of the 3).

Otherwise, I'm looking to re-do the back tiles and get some stone countertops.

What about using Buffalo Board? We had it in our last house, and it did equally as good of a job without any safe and sound in the walls. Just Buffalo board and drywall.

Now we have safe and sound, plywood and drywall. And it isn't that great at all.

Using sound dampening artwork on the inside walls helps as well. Things like you would see at a movie theater.

Any recommendations on somewhere to get cheap cabinet doors? Ikea has plain white ones on for crazy good prices but don't have any of the sizes I need. I might even need custom made?

Get someone to make paint grade and paint them myself maybe?

The ones I'm replacing are, I kid you not, plastic.

Have you considered a gas powered backpack leaf blower?

Be outside for a fraction of the time of shovelling and save the storage space of a walk behind machine.

Just be mindful of where you're blowing the snow.

I've got a handheld electric one that is as powerful as a backpack one I used to use to do sidewalks at a prior job.

That said, I don't think they're as much use for a driveway as sidewalks. They tend to blow a bit each way, which gets messy when doing a driveway or wide area.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

I know several people who use the blowers, both electric and gas. I find it to be a real noise pollution and nuisance. For whatever reason, in the winter, the sound is muffled and is much higher pitched and really annoying at 8 am.

Anyways, Stihl makes a sweeper which is quite effective and can be transformed into a trimmer and a tree trimmer. You need to get at though before it's compacted.

I've never done my own plumbing before, because sautering scares me. Screw it up and you're in trouble until you get a plumber over for a pricy emergency call.

A couple weeks ago I learned about Sharkbite, and figured I'd finally take the plunge and try to figure this out on my own, and wow is it easy. I'm never going to have to call a plumber again!!

Anyone refinished their wood floors? I'm considering it, but I couldn't handle the off-gassing smell for more than a couple days. (I toured a for sale home once that had this done and it was brutal...hoping they just cheeped out and there is a better way)

We had our hardwood floors refinished when we purchased our house. They started the day after we took possession and it took just over 5 days. We certainly did not have any excessive or even noticeable off-gassing once the job was done.

Any idea where I could buy or get a metal window-well grate made in town? I need something that will provide protection from falling in, but still let in light through, and be able to act as an emergency if necessary (so would have a liftable portion).

Something like this:

Rona has these in their store. Might not be strong enough for you though.

Yeah, Ive seen those as I googled around but they look a little flimsy (our window well is quite big, so I think the material has to be on the stronger side) and aren't really the clean contemporary look we're going for. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Call a metal fab shop. I'm sure a half decent millwright could build you something.

Yeah I remember talking to someone who had a custom iron wrought (or not sure if it was iron, some kind of metal) door for their gate, I seem to remember them saying it wasn't as expensive as one would expect.

That's pretty much why I'm asking here if there are any recommended places to call, as it's not really my area of expertise.

Yeah, that could definitely be a nice option too and what I was initially thinking as I want to make sure as much light gets into the basement window as possible. Is there a place in town that could fabricate something custom with plexi? Although I wonder if plexi would be as durable or be able to handle as much weight if kids start jumping on the thing?

This is the window well btw (picture it without the wood). Id like the grate/cover to be flush to the concrete as possible, and I haven't really seen any plexi options that would do that. (not on google images at least, ha).

Spoiler!

Can anyone guesstimate the cost of a Plan-it Builders/ car shacks type company building a very basic 22x22 garage with Pad in the Spring, versus me hiring a pad company and then buying a package and framing it up myself? I am having a hard time finding estimates on line.
