Any lock can be defeated with enough time or effort...the point is to make your bike be enough of a pain in the ass to get to, that they move onto an easier target.

^ yes, good point that I did not mention at all.

based on my neighborhood facebook psots it sounds as if there are a number of garage break ins lately and I now have a cable lock locking up our bikes in the garage - in hopes of presenting a layer of difficulty should anyone get into our garage. I also have a gadget on our door that notifies my phone when my door opens or closes and I have an IP camera in there as well - I am going to contact vivint to ask about getting a outside camera added to our system.

Cable locks can be cut with any 10 dollar side cutters in about 5 seconds. We remove locks for customers all the time that lose their keys.

The best thing to do is lock up all the bikes together with a chain and anchor it either with ceder blocks or something along those lines.

If I lived in a condo/apartment with shared storage, my bikes would never be there.

Ken, my knee is junk as well. Since you're just starting, do not overdo it. Slowly work up your efforts. Minor seat adjustments will be necessary.

I can be fined under the bylaws if I bring it up to my unit. I don't really have a choice but to store it in our parking area. My husband's bike was stolen last fall because we were stupid about the way we locked the bikes up (really bad bike rack prevented us from getting the ULock around the frame), I've now moved my bike to a place where I can get a secure lock with my ULock and cable (which I know isn't infallible, but it's better than the way i had it locked up before).

What, y'all don't just encase your bike in carbonite every time you leave it? No wonder they are getting stolen.

Just kidding. Bike thieves are the worst type of humans, and should be loaded in a trebuchet and shot to Edmonton.

ugh, I rode into a headwind from the north this morning - I envy you guys who will get the wind at your back this morning and then on the way home when it switches around later on today

I don't see why Calgary doesn't try and attract some aerospace companies to town, we've got our own freaking wind tunnel in Nose Creek.

And yes, that wind will most definitely switch to the south to give Northendzone and I a headwind both ways today.

I hate that about commuting on Nose Creek path. I thought I was crazy, but you feel it too.

I haven't left yet. I got wind both ways yesterday. This isn't fair.

I set a new record riding in today. Was cranking close to 40 on the flats.

^^ I hate you.

Actually glad to hear I wasn't the only one who struggled with the wind.

Oh, I'm sure I'll be paid back. According to the forecast, wind will still be from the north this afternoon.

oh well, the vast majority of mornings there is very little wind and given a choice I'd rather deal with it in the afternoon

I was also trying to tell myself that some wind will help dry out the trails in bragg creek a little quicker - so they be good for a few days before the crappy weather hits on the long weekend

Think of the wind as your training partner as well.

I need to better mentally prepare myself for the wind. I think most of us who head north in the morning and south in the afternoon have to deal with this on a regular basis. Right now I deal with it by cursing under my breath as i watch cyclists heading in the opposite direction go on their merry way.

Maybe we need a second CP support group for these riders only so we can all complain together.
