Yeah I do prefer this over "sir" as well. I actually miss the general casualness of Canadians. In the United States, it's always "sir". In Canada it's usually buddy, bro, dude or boss.

You go to a bar in the US and it's "good afternoon, sir? How can I help you? Right Way sir, anything else? Alright, here's your beer sir, are you ready to order food?"
You go to a bar in Canada "Hey buddy, what can I get ya? Sure thing... Here you go boss! What are you gonna eat? Nothing? No problem, let me know if you need anything bro."
I go out to relax not to maintain the formality of being at work.

Actually, last time I came back to Calgary, a few months ago, I had the Canadian customs officer at Calgary airport call me "bro". I thought it was hilarious, but also highlighted the difference between both countries to me.

Thaw and unthaw have the same meaning. Somewhat similar to flammable and inflammable.

Unless youre speaking 16th century Queen's English day to day at home and work, you guys^^ are the ones wrong with your unthaw.

By adding un to the beginning of the word thaw common convention dictates that the action would be reversing its state from a thawed one. It's not a matter of using 16th century Queen's English; it's a matter of not using nonsensical words because those were the ones your parents used.

I'm not giving in on the meaning of literal either. If you use the word unthaw then it automatically makes me think that your judgement is suspect because of your use of clunky language.

I'm not giving up on literal either.

Cup of coffee is so over used now it kind of bugs me, at least in terms of promotion from the minor leagues.

And maybe this doesn't fit, but sentences with the word "but". I subscribe to the adage that you can ignore whatever someone says that comes before "but".

This one isn't a saying, but something people write online when looking for recommendations. They ask for something and then write "And Go!"

For example: Dog groomers in the NW? And Go!

Even if I have a recommendation, I never respond to these posts, because they come across as so rude to me. Instead of thanking people for suggestions, it's like you're ordering them to quickly help you.

I'd say the word "cringe" has recently become overused. It's inherently pretty judgemental.

You only live once (YOLO).
Savage. Fleek. Turnt. Words like that.

I guess I'm still young enough that those words bug me.

Literally has been used for hyperbole since the late 17th century. I have given up my crusade against this word.

I used to have a boss who would say "clear as mud?" after giving directions. Drove me nuts. My biggest one though is people who pronounce schedule with a shh sound.

I did look it up. I screwed it up though. I should have written..."you're NOT unwrong." My bad. I'm still getting used to officially mangled North Americanisms.

Only thing that bothers me is hearing anybody use "whatever" as a dismissive response.

One of the worst things about FOI is the use of "fire him into the sun", generally referring to a whipping boy or a declining player. It shouldn't bother me, but it just seems like such a disrespectful and dehumanizing thing to say about any human being, let alone a hockey player who is just trying to hang on to a job. To me, it says more about the poster who would use this expression.

This may not belong here but some friends and I tried having conversations that ended with 'and whatnot' all the time. Was pretty fun.

A high school one I'm sure glad went away was 'cash', but it was pronounced more like 'casual'.

Yeah man, that's caj... Wtf!

The words yes and no when used as contranyms or antagonyms. For example, "Yeah, no, I'm not going." Or "No, totally I'm going". Especially the way Leonard says it on Big Bang Theory.
