Default Quick Excel Question

I'm keeping track of my fuel economy in excel (yes I'm a nerd)

Anyway, I want to keep a running average of my MPG.

Basically what I have happening is that I currently input the date I purchased my gas, location, what the fuel rate was, how many litres, how much I paid, and distance I drove. Excel currently automatically figures out my MPG, L/KM and KM/L.

I'd like to be able to input exactly what I currently do and have another column of a running average of my MPG
So what do I have to put into the formula bar that will automatically give me my average?

Do you want an average of all of the rates? i.e. Average MPG, KM/L and L/KM? Probably easiest to simply insert a formula at the end of each column, formula would be AVERAGE (Cell1:Cell10), or whatever range.

You can also simply highlight the range and right click in the bottom right of Excel to select 'Average', and simply manually check the average from time to time.

No, that won't give him a true average, because it assumes that he has driven exactly the same number of kms on each fill up.

MQS, just copy your formula that calculates the MPG in the first place, then replace the references to the cells to a reference to the sum of the whole column.

Either that, or create totals at the bottom of the litres filled up column, and the kms driven column, then just copy your calculation formulas that you already have to reference those totals.

Cool, I added more columns that will auto fill.

Thought there might be an easier way than having a ton of columns all over the sheet. However I guess more information isn't a bad thing.

Thanks folks
