True, but you're not exactly going to be able to play most SNES or Genesis games with only a two button controller, so money will still need to be spent on upgrading those

Also, amusingly, you will get more accurate NES emulation from an RP3 with Retropie than you will with the NES Classic

I'm officially giving up on the NES mini, gonna build a Pi kit. Would it be best to go with a 128gb sd card? If anyone knows where to get retropie and software or has any other advice related to a build please send me a pm.

Order the canakit from Amazon. Get the 8bitdo snes controller from Bestbuy. Retropie off their website. Someone posted a good link to games earlier in the thread. Make sure you have a USB keyboard. I set it up using the controller but a cheap USB keyboard would have made life so much easier.

Would this work in lieu of the canakit?

Yep, nearly the exact same thing (just a clear case instead) and you get a keyboard. Canakit you get a 32gb SD vs 16gb but I didn't want to mess with the preloaded stuff on there so I got another SD to use for Retropie.

How much space do the games take up?

NES games average 100kb, SNES 2mb, and N64 15mb.

Retropie extracted is about 1GB I think.

I've read that the micro SD cards can sometimes become corrupted and lose everything meaning you would need to restart the whole process, is it possible to backup the SD card? Or if I wanted to make 2 of these could I just do the whole process once and just copy the finished SD card and put it in a new Pi? (I'm a total noob to this stuff in case it isn't brutally obvious lol)

I don't see why not but you could just keep the zipped or unzipped game roms stored in a folder on your PC if you have the space in case you needed to create a new microSD someday.

Now that I think about it more you'll use a usb thumb drive to transfer the roms to the Pi. There are other ways, but this is what I did https://github.com/retropie/retropie...nsferring-Roms

Not much point in having a backup of Retropie as you'd probably want the latest update anyways

Lots of rumours about an SNES Mini coming. What games should be on it?

I'd be more excited for that system than I am for my NES Mini. SNES was more memorable than NES for my childhood.

It is much easier to build a retropie and put any SNES Games you want on it. I understand the nostalgia part of these buys but for how difficult it was to get the NES Mini, I would much rather just build my own and have a better selection.

So they kill the NES mini after a few months and no availability just to release a SNES? That seems strange, even for Nintendo.
