Treliving doing his due diligence. Really not a fan of Smith though.

Mike Smith seems like a lateral move to Brian Elliott to me. I don't think I'd be overly upset if we traded for him, but I don't know if the cost to acquire him would make it worth it.

So in other words the Flames are totally in on MAF.

He didn't really seem convinced the Flames have a shot at MAF.

Mike Smith or Fleury are not much of upgrades on Elliott, with arena talk and everything surrounding the Flames, I have a negative vibe coming from all this.

I really hope Fleury is a realistic option. If he isnt available I cant really get excited about any other scenarios out there.

The key difference is that those guys have shown they can handle the full load of a #1. Something Moose never has.
I think they are upgrades.
If you are thinking there is going to be more of an upgrade, not sure what goalies you have in mind.

Just a note, McKenzie guaranteed on his podcast a few weeks ago that the Flames are on MAF's no trade list.
He wasn't ruling out that MAF wouldn't come to Calgary, just pointing out that MAF would need to waive his NTC for Calgary.

As long as the cost to acquire him is less than a 3rd rounder.

Maybe I'm just a biased Canadian, but I'd rather live in Calgary with maybe a decent chance to compete over the next few years than Vegas and be at the bottom of the league for half a decade to ride out my career.

I was pro Fleury but all the Vegas discussion resulted in me moving on. I am okay with getting him but do not want to spend a ton of assets.

Freaking MAF.
So over rated.
If the Pens hadn't lucked out with Murray they'd likely still be looking for their 2nd Cup with two Hart caliber centers, and generational talents in Crosby and Malkin, and mostly because MAF is average to below average, and usually sucks in the playoffs.

If Mike Smith is the goalie they go with, we might as well write off the next few seasons. I'd rather have Elliott, and Elliott stinks.

I'd rather go with Gillies and Parsons next year than spend any assets getting MAF.

Because Mike Smith is making 6M and is a below average starter.
