Thumbs up 2010 Blue Jays Season Thread

The NHL trade deadline usually signals the beginning of something magical...

That's right ladies and gentlemen, the Toronto Blue Jays have lost their very first spring training game of the year!

The Detroit Tigers defeated the Blue Jays 7-6 this afternoon (BOXSCORE). The Jays got down early, but coming into the 8th down 5-2, the Jays put up a 4 spot to go up 6-5. They immediately gave up two in the top of the ninth to put the Tigers up 7-6. Our boys failed to get anything going in the bottom half. The Jays also had 3 Es on the afternoon. Some good game notes in Bastian's twitter, see below.

I just can't wait for another year of awesome late inning choke jobs. We should have paid for K-rod, so simpletons like me would not spoil their opinion of the team on theatrical late inning collapses....(They don't really happen more than average, do they?)

Chris Lubanski with 3 Run HR. Can you say 'the future'?

Aaron Hill with 2 BB on 3 ABs, hopefully this indicates he is still seeing the ball well.

Joey Gathright with today's crown of poop at 3Ks. At least Vernon wouldn't have faired any better! (He probably would have somehow got 3Ks while still grounding into 3 DPs)

All in all a pretty good reflection of whats to come.

Hahaha I knew that would get some funny reactions. Consider it sarcastic poke. Jose Bautista is our lead off hitter for gods sake. Our worst hitter hits in the four spot.

I am pretty anti Cito...

But if it really upsets everyone so much feel free to ask a mod to change it...

EDIT: Realized I could go advanced, never knew that. Now you may consider it a sarcastic poke at the awsomeness of 2010 World Series Champion Toronto Blue Jays. (I am actually all thumbs up to waste 4 hours of my life every day. God I love baseball, if only for the daily game).

Well if the Blue Jays win 70 games this year I'll be pleasantly surprised. But as hard as this season could be in terms of wins and losses they pretty much had to go this direction. At least with a few young players they should have a few entertaining games. But man is that pitching staff going to be in for a very long season.

This team could probably win about 75-80 games with an average manager. The fact it's Cito leads me to believe we'd be lucky to avoid losing 100 games.

Would guess the Jays will win around 75 games. This year is the first time in awhile the Jays are going in the proper direction. They have added lots and lots of scouts and have lots of draft picks.

The trick os to sign those picks as well. Didn't do a great job of it last year.

True but they also received picks this year as a result. Personally I am looking forward to this draft.

Jays have the scouting staff to identifiy the players and I believe Beston and AA can sign them.

I don't care if the Jays win zero games this year, at least this time around...there's a plan I can get behind.

Jays won their first spring training game of the year today knocking off the Tigers 9-7. Catching prospect Arencibia hit a 2 run homerun in the 9th to give the jays the lead in the top half of the 9th. Rommie Lewis came in to pitch the 9th to get the save.

In other news Halladay pitched in his first grapefruit league game of the year today, pitching 2 perfect innings with 3 K's against the Yankees.

I like what I see so far with AA's plan and I agree this draft will be different than previous (being able to sign players).

Well signing prospects from the draft is as much an ownership thing as anything. Seeing as AA didn't run out and blow the bank on a Frank Thomas this offseason hopefully they've earmarked some money to aggressively chase some better guys in the draft. Sure the draft picks have a pretty high bust ratio but for 10 million you can get 4 or 5 stabs at it, and if two of them work out it pays off in the end.

Jays are up 5-1 on the Phillies. Bautista with a lead off home run in the first. Is hitting 3 for 3 so far today. Very interesting preseason so far.

Edit: make that 8-1 in the bottom of the 4th. Bautista is ripping it up preseaon in the lead off position. I hope against hopes that he will carry it over into the regular season.

10-1, still the bottom of the 4th.

At least this season we won't let expectations lead to disappointment. Last year started so promising and ended like every other year.

Jays are up 7-1 in the top of the 6th against the Yankees. The yankees have a mostly regualr season roster. Toronto is outhitting them 14-1.

Marcum had a hitless 2 innings.

Jays lit up Burnett for 5 hits and 2 runs on 1.2 innings.

Edit: Wells is having a great preseason as well, hopefully it carries over.
Hill has walked 5 out of 7 at bats this preseason. I think that is more walks than the entire previous season.

9-1 Jays now. Arencibia jacks his 2nd homer of the preseason. Out hitting Yankees 17-4 in the top of the 8th.

hard to imagine when i was a kid how excited i got for the jays, and the amazing world series runs back to back.

now, whats the point? the yanks and red sox have team salaries that astronomical, and they jays have ugly uniforms haha. seriously tho change it back to the old style jerseys.
