I doubt that KC exerts any more energy trying to win 1st overall than the Jays do.
And more importantly, I don't think it matters that much.
First, what are the chances that they meet KC in the ALCS and that it goes to 7 games? Less than 10% for sure.
Also, even though the Jays were definitely better at home, their top 2 pitchers - Price and Stroman - are both good on the road.
Let's say they play KC and KC has home field... if they can get Price and Stroman to start in KC, and they get a split, they go home for 3, where the rest of the team and staff are far better.
If it goes to game 7, so be it.
....
And another thing: if the Jays win it all, then great!
If they don't, every single decision will be criticized, regardless of what it is.
If Price pays poorly in his first game, they will criticize his rest. If he wasn't rested and played poorly in his first game, they will criticize that he wasn't rested.
Bottom line: the only thing that matters is what they do in the playoffs.
