Crap tournament got the crap end it deserved.
With the exception of the heroics of Iceland, this has been a waste of a month.

Was too young to enjoy and appreciate Flames in 89, so this is really the first time one of my teams has won a title and it feels pretty damn good.
Still can't believe it was Eder of all people.

Pretty much echoing the sentiment here. Crap tournament with a crap end and a crap team winning it.
Iceland a cool story though.

Obviously echoing the ending of the tournament was perfectly fitting. If money never mattered they'd be right back to 16 teams. It was truly a dreadful tournament outside a few games, ironically one of them featuring the mostly negative team that ended up winning. Portugal fans don't care, nor should they. It just wasn't enjoyable watching the majority of the matches. If England weren't England this tournament would have really been boring. So thanks to England for ####ing off as always. At least we got entertainment value out of that.

I try really hard to get into soccer and always watch the World Cup, Euros, Asian Cup and Champions league. Tournaments like this make me realise why I will never be a huge fan.

Champions League and EPL is where the quality is. Best players, coaches, tactics etc...
The national competitions have that patriotic pride going but they are usually not that good. Very scared, very defensive tactics. Played in the hottest conditions, players who are tired after a long club season and coaches that frankly are pretty poor and would never get a top club job (exception Conte which took a dreadful Italian team far on tactics alone.)
Plus you need a rooting interest. Who do you like?

EPL might be one of the top leagues, but it is not the top league by a long shot. The best players, coaches, and tactics are sprinkled within the big 5: La Liga, Bundesliga, EPL, Serie A and Ligue 1. Personal taste dictates which of the five you think is the best.
EPL teams might toss a lot of cash around, but that doesn't mean the talent is there.

I only mentioned EPL cause it's on tv for a newbie to get into soccer. The other leagues aren't as available unless you're a degenerate like me.

Fair enough, the other leagues are tougher to find (Serie A used to be on the Score, and now its either on beinsports, or RAI Italia).
I always run into my EPL loving friends trying to convince that its the pinnacle of all football and all other clubs and leagues are lesser (despite the current dominance by Barca, Real and Bayern), glad to see this isn't the case here.

In the end Portugal didn't lose a game and once the knockout stages started they played great defense.
Beat France at home without Ronaldo and you can't overlook that.
In the end they were clutch when they needed to be and are the European champions.
Congrats to VanFlamesFan who sticks by Portugal and still shows up on threads like these even though Portugal always take a lot of crap.

I should probably cheer for the Socceroos since their my home team and my company sponsors them. After this tournament I'm thinking of going for Wales though as I have some Welsh heritage, Bale is awesome, and it was hilarious they did better than England.
Also, I'm starting to become a Spurs fan. Solely because in FIFA15 they hired me after I was fired from Real Madrid and we went on to win 10 premierships and 4 champions leagues.

Haha, all in good fun. I understand the disdain people have for them.
Thanks! Been a great night for sure.

What's wrong with 3rd place and qualifying for the CL?
Besides, I'm a Flames fan so it's not like being disappointed is anything new.

Over all the sports I cheer for three teams that don't win and two that do. But one of the winners was a miraculous turnaround.
Life needs balance

At least this tournament has brought on a sense of confidence and significance for Polish fans.
That's the only positive that we're taking from this. Bring on the World Cup Qualifying.

Portugal was overdue to win a major tournament, so good for them. I'll probably have cheer for them again in 2018 because I don't think the Netherlands will qualify for that either.
