The Stand: 4 part movie project
The epic novel is getting a major re-do via Hollywood.
To this day, it's still the largest single book and one of my favorites that I've ever read.
Matthew McConaughey has signed on to be the villain, Randall Flagg.
As much flack as the mini-series got back in 1994, I still enjoyed it.
Gary Sinise should totally come back as Stu Redman. Though he may look pretty old.
A four part movie does seems excessive. Perhaps a 10 part mini-series on HBO or something would be a better fit.
I doubt the regular public would want to wait so long in between films.

Yet we still wait for The Dark Tower series to get its movie/TV treatment...

I actually really liked the old mini-series Randall Flagg should have been a stronger character, I don't know if MM can pull it off.
I always thought Robert Duvall would be excellent in that role.

a 4 part movie??? Why do they need to stretch out the source material so ridiculously? Kind of like The Hobbit. This movie should be done in 2 parts at most.

Out of all of the movie ideas the Stand makes the most sense to be a four parter. There's a lot of material in that book its huge
The plague alone would be the first part
The individual journeys to find mother abigail and to find Flagg
Establishing the civilizations, and realizing the threat and the walk to Vegas
The end scene in Vegas the walk home what happened to Flag.

I remember watching the mini-series back in '94: The Stand
I don't remember if I got to catch all 4 episodes though. It was a long time ago and I do remember enjoying what I did watch. I would probably checkout the 4 part movie.

Awesome. The original book said on the back cover when it first came out, soon to be a major motion picture, but that of course never happened. The Stand is definitely my favourite book and I hated the mini-series. The book is too dark and tough to be on TV. Well, network TV anyway. Can't wait for this.

I'd like to see something official on the McConaughey as Flagg thing. So far everyone is just reprinting the Guardian story which isn't exactly definitive. I do think he'd be good in that role.

If you read the book you have to read the extended version of it as the original was cut down due to size.
Its probably one of King's best books period, still not a huge fan of the ending, it wasn't bad but it could have been better.
Jonah Hill would probably make a great Harold Lauder.

At like 1,200 pages you would think that it was your list.

I've only read the extended version and think a ten part mini series on HBO would be the best bet. Wonder how they would handle the deaf guy having sex with an under age girl.

I always thought that it was hilarious that the deaf guy was played by Rob Lowe having sex with an underaged girl.

I've never been a big reader of Stephen King's stuff, and asides from the Dark Tower series have never really read his stuff. If I loved the Dark Tower should I give The Stand a go?
