Andrew Ference announces retirement after 16 seasons in the NHL
https://www.nhl.com/oilers/news/andr...nt/c-290386094
Good luck in retirement okotoker
Quote:
Andrew said, "As I graduate from my time of playing in the NHL, I realize I have the problem of being unable to properly thank the hundreds of people who have helped me achieve my goal of playing in the best league in the world. No one gets here on their own, especially average sized guys with average skills. If you think you deserve a thank you from me, you probably do…Thanks!"
"My girls, Ava and Stella, and my wife, Krista, however do deserve a proper thanks and my infinite gratitude. They tended my broken bones and bruised ego more times than I can count and gave me unending love and support even when I missed a Christmas concert for a road trip."
"My parents and sister didn't teach me a lick about skating or shooting but they did teach me a ton about life off of the ice. Because of their lessons, I leave the game having a lot of pride in what I accomplished away from the rink in the great communities where I played."
"Lastly, thank you to Pittsburgh, Calgary, České Budějovice, Boston and Edmonton. Your love of our sport provided me with an incredible stage to play on and your cities will always feel like home to me. Hockey fans really are amazing!"

Despite my feelings towards his latter part of his career, he will be remembered fondly for his years of service in Calgary and he is one of the good guys in the game.
Enjoy your retirement!

Always a fan of Ference. 16 seasons is a hell of a career for an all around average player.

I really liked Ference, but its a shame that he ended it as an Oiler.

Will never forget him during his post game on ice interview after winning the Cup with the Bruins game 7 in Vancouver giving a shout out to ex Flames that had it slip out of their fingers in 04. Very nice gesture and just a reminder of how special that 2004 team was not only to us as a city and fans but to them as players.

Always one of my favorites, I just pretended he didn't exist when he was an Oiler.
There is no doubt in my mind that when he was traded to Boston it was the beginning of the downfall of the Calgary Flames.

Like we need more people to tell us that the Oilers suck.

Seems like a very good likeable and hardworking guy... Too bad he went oiler and about that one dirty incident with Stempniak but overall glad for him to have had such a solid career.

I liked him a lot but his time with the oilers a d what he did while he was there will taint his legacy. I still like him but not as much as I once did.
It would be great if he came back to CP

Finally! Geez, I thought he'd never get around to thanking me.*
Happy retirement Andrew! Try not to get too bored.
*I have never met Andrew, but I felt like he owed me a thank you anyway.
