You know I thought the same thing lol -- saw it on the ticker on tv in passing then went to go search by typing in 'Freddie Brathwaite signing' with nothing 'Freddie Brathwaite NYI' still nothing.... 'Fred Brathwaite' ahhh there we go! Guess he's not like the Hamilton's lol
The crazy thing is hearing the call at the end 'using all of his 5'7 reach on that one' and thinking; When's the last time you ever heard 5'7 (185lbs!!) and Goalie in the same sentence?? Crazy to think honestly when Juuse Saros is being called small at 5'11 180.
I've only been to two Flames games so far in my life, one in Boston vs the Bruins in 2000 and one in NYC vs the Rags in 2002. Fred Brathwaite was the Flames goalie in the game vs the Bruins and he played pretty much lights out, and I remember him getting the win and staying out on the ice by himself for a long while after the game cheering the very, very few Flames fans in the building. Thought that was a pretty cool thing to do after a road game, especially during such a crappy season as 1999-2000. Also, Marc Savard with a 3-point game, maybe we should have held on to that guy...

Love Freddie.. The Jerseys were the worst the Flames wore. Worse than the snot nosed horse.
The Horse Head jerseys actually looked great on the ice. One of the better Flames jerseys IMO.
Back on topic Freddie was a good player for this franchise in the dark days. Very likeable and talented as he made the most out of being an undersized goaltender in a league that was trending to larger goaltenders. I hope it works out for him in NY.
Didn't grow up a Flames fan, but in 2000 Freddy single handedly made me one after a long absence of not following hockey in my life. At least until 2009 when I bounced out of Calgary.
Loved Turek too though. But that was a sad day when he was traded
I met Freddie in Montreal a few years ago during the World Juniors. Stand up guy. Had a quick chat with him as we were staying in the same hotel as the Canadian team. Pleasant guy, laughing and smiling as we talked about the Flames and the Canadian Junior team. I believe he was working the Canadian goalies - Fucale and Comrie during that tournament.
I'd be curious to know what was going through Derek Morris' head on that one. Something along the lines of "wow, that guy's going really fast and I'm just standing here" I'd guess.
That save will live forever.
