The new Sukhoi Superjet 100 jetliner goes down (well missing... but that probably means down at this point) in a demonstration flight meant to drum up sales in Asia. If it is down, this will be just the latest in a long string of Russian aviation accidents. 50 odd people on the flight.

The Russians have vague protocol pertaining to civil/commercial aviation as a whole.
This includes the somewhat lack of defined regulations like the CAR's and FAR's we have in North America. Maintenance requirements in Russia are particularly suspect.
A great many accidents can still be attributed to pilot error along with poorly maintained, antiquated equipment.

This was a demonstration flight of a brand new plane, so presumably Sukhoi brought their best pilots...
I think its a pilot error or ground control error. The superjet is up to european and american standard of equipment including terrain warning radars backed up by GPS. There is no way that the pilot could have lost situational awareness
Did you even watch your video? It was flown by a computer. No pilot, just a computer.
Do you always trust what an internet video says without reading the comments or doing research? It's completely wrong. It was flown by a pilot and there were 130 passengers.
The video claims it was flown by computer but it's only fly by wire (aka, the pilot controls are not physically connected to the control surfaces) much like many modern vehicles are.

The pilot wasn't used to the computor, but he was still in the seat with a co pilot, arguebly they might have been better off without a pilot as pilot confusion over whether the plane was 'programmed' into metric or imperial (meters v feet) seems to have been part of the issue.

The Russian answer for the Boeing 737 is a failure as expected,why they feel the need to try and compete is crazy,it cost them 5 times the $$ to develope these junk aircraft then it would to just buy one of the others.
Will this affect sales of the plane? Seems to be CFT, so maybe not? I saw the Mayday episode about the A320 crash, and though people were wary, it didn't seem to affect sales; isn't the A318/319/320/321 series one of the all-time best sellers? Sukhoi seems to have some good early sales #s.
It's also not a competitor to the 737, except maybe for the -600 series. This is meant to compete with Bombardier and Embraer.
