You can watch the whole episode (9 I think) on Bill Nye Saves the World. Just provides an interesting perspective (whether you like Nye or not). Agree with most, that the whole "gender unknown" at birth is a bit off board. Not a hill I'd die on but, hey, they got their moment in the press.

I'm going to make news by declaring that I won't impose that my offspring lives in a physical dimension. If it chooses to live as a spirit on the spirit plane, all good. Gender and species are so yesterday.

To me at birth either you have indoor or outdoor plumbing.
I can see later on making a change on the fly if the person feels they do not fit into one category.

That's the child's sex. There's a difference between sex and gender
Picking the baby's sex isn't an option. Males and females are born with physically different bodies and have different health concerns, anatomy etc.
The debate is about gender

Isn't the child's sex what is recorded on a birth certificate?

Hypothetical situation:
It's 2050. Eugenics has advanced to the point where we can screen and remove mental and physical disabilities like down syndrome, Spina bifida, even correct mental ######ation.
First, to those saying how trans-phobic (lol) I'm being, would you view this use of eugenics as wrong? Would it be more morally correct to allow children to be born with serious illness and handicaps? Is the word itself eugenics just too fraught with historical malpractice?
So if you (hopefully) agree that it's ok to do that, let's then continue down that path a bit. Let's say that the Doctor tells you that your baby will be born male, but, they can detect in the brain that your child will identify as a female. They can change it. I won't even use the word "correct" as not to make anyone faint. Do you think it would be ok for parents to have that choice?

Ever read 'Brave New World'? If so...Do you want a world with or without savages?

So then why is the guy/girl in the article making a big stink about nothing? Birth certificate asks for sex, not gender. Tell the moron the difference and be done with it. Seems like a needless publicity stunt to me.

Gender as a concept is new to some people. WHO has a good explanation.
