Default Dog Kennels in the Calgary Area?

I'm Trying to plan a family trip this summer however, for this trip, we cannot bring our 10 year old dog and we are having a hard time finding family/friend that is able to take care of him.

We have never used a kennel or similar type service before but are looking at all options now. Any recommendations or tips? We would need a 24-hour service for about a week.

Thanks!

I can recommend Country Tails Kennels in Crossfield. They are on an acreage and there's awesome care for the dogs. Our dog always gets so excited when they come to pick her up and is exhausted when she comes home. Also, a nice bonus is they do pick up and delivery to your house in Calgary (for a cost) which is a huge time saver for us. They also post photos and videos of your dog each day on their facebook page which is cool.

My dogs go to Southbark Dog Boarding. It's just outside the city, near Priddis. My one dog loves to go anywhere, but my other is a bit shy with other dogs and they both get really excited when we arrive, which tells me they enjoy their time there. It is very well run and professional.

The dogs each get their own indoor/outdoor run so they can have their own space and then they get play time with the other dogs in the large, securely fenced yard, each day. A lot of kennels are "open concept" these days, which I find too overwhelming for a lot of dogs for a longer stay.

We use Dawg Tired and would recommend them to anyone. Its two ladies at their house in Irricana. They don't kennel the dogs at all. They just let them live with them in the house which we thought was kind of cool. He also get walked once or twice every day. The big guy loves it out there. Always excited to be picked up and always pooped when he comes home.

I have always found good dog sitters using an online service. Have used this several times for both my dogs for overnight stays. From what I can see it is about the same cost as kennels but your dog gets to stay in a house instead. My dogs find it far less stressful than a kennel. For all day boarding, some of the cheaper sitters leave the dogs at home alone while other people are there all day with your dog.

I recommend www.rover.com (formerly dogvacay.com). I can recommend some sitters I have used before as well if it is helpful.

SleepRover - they have a bit of a waiting list to get in with them as a client, but they're awesome. I'd liken it to doggy summer camp, but similar to the other places locally that do daycare and overnight stays, but the staff are top notch here. Dogs are kept in 3 separate areas based on size / age.

Doggo comes back thoroughly pooped every stay and you get 100s of photos a day (yes, a day) posted to see they're having a blast.

SleepRover is our goto kennel but I'm pretty astounded that some of the other kennels being recommended in this thread charge about half as much as SleepRover. For a 10+ day stay, that really adds up. We will try one of the kennels outside of Calgary next time.
