Anybody else doing the rescheduled Ride to Conquer Cancer this weekend? Looks like we're finally going to have some decent weather for one of these. Not real happy about the latter part of the route on Day 2. Somehow, I don't think sending a couple thousand riders up the bike path from Anderson through the Weaselhead was the best choice. Narrow path (relative to a road) with twisty bits in he Weaselhead leads me to think there's going to be congestion even if it is near the end where the riders will be most spread out.

Yeah, no doubt. I don't know how many times I've almost run over dogs down there. especially since a lot of owners seem to like to stand on the east side of the path and play fetch by throwing balls across the pathway...

Where is everyone's favourite destination to ride? I like to have a destination in mind when I start off, but I'm finding myself getting tired of the usual rides I take. Going out and getting lost on a turn can be fun but I prefer to have something in mind still.

Do you live in the south or north end of the city? I can recommend some rides but it depends on your starting point.

66, 22x, 22, 549, plumbers road, 242 Ave, 762, 773, 552. You can make a loop or out and back with any of those roads. It depends how far you want to go?

Someone posted some ideas but I'll post some detailed routes later when I have more time.

Anyone know the route for Ride to Conquer Cancer? I know its going on this weekend and would like to avoid it if at all possible to now add traffic for their sake and for my own sake.

^^ I think you'll get mixed opinions about this, but I've had good service from The Bike Shop just down the street.

There's also Campione on 4th Street and 10th Avenue. Pretty new shop, haven't been in there. Worth a phone call/quick stop I suppose.

^ My bad, totally forgot about BikeBike.

Haven't used them for service but have bought some stuff there. Nice little shop, friendly, solid prices. Definitely recommend.

I have got to BikeBike...Sean is great and they have a cool little shop...I can see that being an alternative...MEC somewhat redeemed themselves today, but mainly cause I had a good mechanic today (Hank).

I like MEC, don't like the BikeShop at all.
What happened at MEC?

The only reason you'll get mixed opinions on them, is because you posted a positive review, where as anyone else who has ever dealt with them thinks they suck. Location alone is why they survive.

Cross the river and go to Ridley's.

I'm looking at a new commuter bike - most have rigid front suspension (I'd kill for something with lockout) but the MEC one has a carbon fork.

Does a carbon fork really make that much of a ride difference vs a rigid one?

If anyone has long term experience with an Alfine 11 drivetrain and how an IGH holds up in the winter I'd love to know.

Campione isn't new. They've been around for years, they've just relocated. They used to be on 12th ave and 8th st. Excellent bike shop if you can afford it. You go in, pick your frame and components (they like campagnolo), and he'll build you a bike.
