I was a huge Phil Jones fan when he first came on the scene but I can't recall anyone that injures himself (in that he is the one going for the tackle and comes out injured) as much.
Phil Jones is content to stay at Manchester United, and José Mourinho has no desire to see him leave, despite Stoke City being the latest club to express an interest. United have rejected several inquiries this summer for Jones as Mourinho’s position remains that the central defender is a key part of his defence.
It is understood that Arsenal are another club who have been monitoring Jones’s position and United’s determination that he stay has caused Arsène Wenger to consider West Bromwich Albion’s Jonny Evans. Jones has not been selected for either of United’s opening two games but he is not concerned as he recognises that the season is just under way.
The way I see it, they either offload one of Jones or Rojo and buy Fonte, otherwise they just stay put. Smalling/Blind/Bailly is still great CB depth. If you can upgrade from Jones/Rojo, then great. If not, then no harm done.
Obviously if he's sold, his squad spot would need to be replaced; Fonte, Mustafi etc;
I don't rate Blind. He's small; unfit for a CB. Never seen any brilliance. He's a passenger on this squad. Look at how teams rain balls in United, when they desperately need a goal. Blind is terrible in the air.
Just in the game vs Leicester he had a poorly thought out run, and was dispossessed to a fast counter. Thankfully Herrera saved the day, with a timely tackle which eventually led to Ibra's goal. He's average at many positions, but doesn't excel at any.
Hart always seemed to like it at City and was pretty much their only homegrown talent that they've brought through their system in the last decade. Have to say I'm pretty surprised that there isn't more uproar in the English media given that the #1 of the NT is pushed out of the club, but it probably helped that Caballero didn't screw up in the first few games. Also, of course, Guardiola is still seen as a god who can't do anything wrong.

Arsenal have had bids accepted today for Mustafi (£35m) as well as Perez (£17m). Total spending on fees this window is now close to £100m

Starting plan from the back, & strong distribution seem to be the root of Pep's decision.
yeah I understand all that. Guardiola is obsessed with possession and building from the back and Hart was always going to have a really tough time with him in charge. Still, it surprised me that he pushed him out so quickly, I still thought he'd give him a year. It's a power play and a statement for sure - Hart was the only English player they had that fans could somehow connect to, you know what I mean? He's been there for 10 years, while their other local players are very expensive purchases or fringe players. It's surprising that he can push him out with so little backlash. And I know that Hart is a bit ####, but still.
I'm also a bit old-school when it comes to goalkeeping I have to admit. I'll take a great shot stopper over a ball playing pretender like ter Stegen every day of the week and twice on Premier League Sunday.
