If it means giving up one of our two top young defensemen; we don't have that many to give away, so why bother?

Oh I definitely agree - I wouldn't do that deal. All I'm saying is that is what it would cost. Just doesn't make sense for the Flames.

P.S. I think the only logical trade for Duchene is Trouba. Makes sense for both Avs and Jets (although cap hit is big and will need to be dealt with). I am sure there is a discussion going on there somehwere about it...
|
IMO the Jets are already forward heavy in depth and I imagine they would want a quality defenseman or defensive prospect in return for Trouba.

It would give them two strong 1st lines centered by Duchene and Scheifele, which would make them very dangerous.
P.S> LOL. Just did a search, found this: http://nhlnumbers.com/2016/6/20/shou...r-matt-duchene

Bryan Little is not exactly chopped liver. He has 0.75 P/G over the last three seasons. Duchene has 0.72 P/G over that span.

I agree. But it's like Burke says: "a good player's stats on a bad team will look bad too".

If the conversation doesn't start without Brodie or Hamilton then who in the league can start a conversation? In terms of current ability + future potential Brodie and Hamilton are both top 15 defencemen in the NHL. Both players also have manageable salaries and term.

How much do you think the Flames resign Versteeg for? He's been super productive, but he's always an injury concern.

The term is what concerns me. I believe he turns 31 at the end of the season.

If Versteeg's next contract doesn't come under $2 million you move on.

Versteeg has 18pts in 28gp, which is a 52pt season when fully healthy, and is 3rd best on the Flames for ppg pace.
Under 2 million seems low

Good.
Enjoy a low value contract and move on.

+/- isn't a good individual stat.

I thought that Kermitology informed us that his friends wife has MS and it's not that bad so therefore TJ wouldn't be suffering any reduced play due to his fiancée's diagnosis?

The last time a guy played well on a tryout was overpaid big time by the Flames, not suggesting Versteeg is another Raymond but they have to be careful here

I'm done with handing out big contracts. I'm ready for Tre to go full Yzerman on the next signings. Our top guys continue to not be top contributors. Our '3rd line' and Chad Johnsons freak run are the only reasons were in the mix.

Setoguchi was the tryout, Raymond was the free agent signing that was meant to replace Cammalleri

And Setoguchi didn't get much money.
