That's my tell on why they'll go Mason. Limited assets to acquire some key positions, a perfectly good goalie is UFA that fits the Flames criteria.

You're more likely to succeed in signing a Ufa goalie to a good deal than a good Ufa d man. Like where is Kulikov gonna land and what price? 5 million a year?

Interesting comment from Boomer this morning that the Flames were "in" on Talbot (which we knew) and that perhaps the main reason he went to Edmonton instead of Calgary is because Sather isn't keen on doing anything to help Calgary.

We also traded our picks for Dougie Hamilton so I'm not sure there was a deal to be had to be honest. Sure wish we could have got him though.

Flames still had a 2nd and 2 3rds after the Hamilton trade.

The only sticking point with going the UFA route is length of contract. I don't think I would feel comfortable committing any more than two years to Mason or Elliott and I imagine they may be looking for more than that and one of them may get it from the Jets. Giving up the assets may be worth it not to be saddled to a bad contract for 3+ years.

Yeah, Calgary had 53 (Andersson), 76 and 83 (in the draft traded up to select Klyington at 60).

Talbot went for 57,79 and 184th pick.

No debate Calgary had better 2nd and 3rd rounders to offer if they offered.

I guess the same could have been said for the Hamilton trade that went in our favor.

ierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
Not from a lack of trying, but am told the Preds haven't been able to work out a deal with Vegas to this point (to lay off Neal or Jarnkrok)

Pierre LeBrun @PierreVLeBrun
Replying to @PierreVLeBrun
but the Preds will keep trying.... while I suspect also look at the overall trade market as well ...

Any interest in Lehner?

Chris Nichols @NicholsOnHockey
Dreger: "I believe that Buffalo absolutely would trade Robin Lehner, and I believe that they want to trade Evander Kane." #Sabres

He's a classic headcase goaltender who's done ok on an awful team right? I feel like I remember their fans thinking he was the future after Miller left but then souring on him quickly, no?

Not sure I would give up more than the 3rd that would go to St. Louis for Elliott, but I would look at Lehner for sure.

Is today a trade deadline before the expansion draft?... is the draft tomorrow?

Lehner is a crazy person, but has put in some good work and is young. I'd be happy if he ended up here. Certainly looks at least as good as a lot of the other options right now. Re-unite Lehner/Johnson?
