Time for reflection...

Namita @nnstats
cool to see how many top picks in the '15 draft already have NHL experience. bit of a gap in the middle there, wonder what that's about

To be fair is isn't really a gap in the middle given the guys after have barely played. That being said, Barzal, Connor, Chabot, and Ek all look like better prospects now - as they did on the day of the draft.

Strome over Marner is looking like a major mistake for the Coyotes.

Eh way too early to say that IMO. Strome is considered a top 5-10 prospect outside the NHL (http://www.tsn.ca/test1-1.677389.) Time will tell, much too early to be making sweeping judgements about such a recent draft.

With Keller, Strome and Dvorak ARI has some pretty crazy young centre depth.

Most teams would take the large center every time. Hard to blame them. I do think Marner is and will always be the better player though. He's a pretty special talent.

I don't think so. I think with the benefit of hindsight the Coyotes today would take Marner as would most teams. Like his brothers Dylan isn't a great skater and it holds them back against the best. I think he will get more of an opportunity in the NHL but don't think he's going to have the impact of the other players picked ahead and even behind him.

I don't believe D Strome is going to be a high end NHL center.

Arizona really got screwed badly by that draft lottery. Not only did they have to go from Eichel to Strome, but they also now have to deal with McDavid being on a divisional rival.

Buffalo got screwed too, but at least they got Eichel out of it, and don't have McDavid front and center competing against them for 10+ years.

I haven't liked what I've seen of Strome. Seems like a whiner and a flake. He'll be an NHLer, but I really doubt he'll be a #1 C.

If we're on the topic of Strome, I could see him having a Jeff Carter type career. Seeing some time at wing (maybe Clayton Keller's wing, as Keller seems to have a better 'feel' for the centre position), some time as a secondary scoring centre.

To be fair, how easy was it to make it onto say, Toronto, Edmonton, Arizona or the Avs opening day lineup versus SJ, Ottawa, or Boston's?

Corey Pronman‏ @coreypronman
Lets talk about Michael Rasmussen, who could potentially go in the top 10 Friday, and know some teams consider him a top 5 prospect 1/

Most public discourse about Rasmussen has focused on even-strength production. There's no hiding the ball here it's bad. 15 pts in 50 GP. 2/

As many longtime readers know, I'm not afraid to call a tree a tree i.e. clear overrating on size. It's an obvious problem in industry. 3/

That being said I do not see that issue to large degree with Rasmussen. I see a big man with skill. He makes plays whenever I've watched. 4/

I don't endorse him in the high range on Friday. I have him ranked 19th & #'s worry me. But I reject notion he has no scoring upside.

--

I still hope we stay far away from Rasmussen.

Rasmussen is about the only guy I would legitimately be disappointed in if the Flames selected him. Like 2008 Greg Nemisz + Mitch Wahl disappointed.

D. Strome has a shot that will keep him in the NHL. I agree I don't see #1C potential (M. Richards like wheels in my opinion). But could see him as a winger who can arrive last in the zone and snipe.

reading some reports.. he sounds alot like backlund.. hopeffully if selected he is that but doesn;t take as much time to bcome 'backlund' as backlund did..

im also not understaing all this 'weak' draft stuff.. the closer we get to the draft the more interesting each prospect is IN MY OPINION.. not seeing a lot of weak undesirable players until later in the 1st-into the 2nd?...

My take
- Weak at the very top in terms of the first couple picks not having elite potential
- Normal draft from around 5-25
- Shallow, once you get to the back half of the first and the second, it gets a lot more shallow a lot more quickly

The good news is for where the Flames are drafting I think it is a normal draft. Whatever normal means.

My largely out the arse 2 cents.

What are everyone's thoughts on Kailer Yamamoto?

Really small, but looks like he has incredible skill and hockey sense. Could be the high risk/high reward Treliving is looking for?

If they drop down to the mid 20s I think he would be a candidate. But not at 16

I agree, the first round looks good. I think not having a McDavid or Matthews has led some to trash the entire draft.
