Canadiens Montréal @CanadiensMTL
The Canadiens acquire BUF's 3rd-round pick (68) in 2017 , in return for N. Beaulieu.

I wonder if the 3rd is worth keeping him away from Vegas? Seems better to me to just let him go to the west than trade him within the division for such a small return.

Well played, Botterill (Sabres) - this dude is a shrewd GM. He should right the ship in Buffalo in the coming years...

A third seems pretty cheap.
I guess he never really developed into what they thought he would when he was drafted.

But Montreal fans were telling us how awesome he was.

Habs dumping another defenseman. Either they have a trade for one lined up or they have no idea what they are doing

That seems cheap for a guy that immediately slides into our top 4. Defense was our weakest spot, this is a great acquisition.
I see he's an RFA, maybe he was pricing himself higher than Montreal wanted to pay?

Just wondering this myself. Are they going to have ANY young defenders to rely on going forward?
This is how franchises are run into the ground.

I think Bergevin is panicking. He is guessing which player is he going to lose for nothing on the expansion draft.

I figured he was toast when they signed Jakub Jerabek from the KHL. Beaulieu has all the tools, but no toolbox. He was a healthy scratch in the last playoff game against the Rangers as well.

I think the Habs are getting rid of a player who wasn't happy where he was playing. I thought I saw on twitter from one of the more respected journalists that Beaulieu wasn't in Montreal's plans anymore. He may have been disappointed about being a healthy scratch in Montreal's last game of the playoffs.

Says something about the state of the Habs defense when they protect Jordie Benn

I was actually impressed with him. Pretty solid albeit unspectacular player.

Could be his attitude as well, I have met him a couple times and to say he was friendly is a lie.

was Beaulieu the player that the flames almost drafted but chose Baertschi instead? I remember Feaster talking about almost taking a blue liner, then switched to SB. He mentioned it at the time that Sven was looking like a stud and NB upside was uncertain....Feaster was mentioning it in the context of how they might change rankings at the draft and "thank goodness they did and ended up with Sven" type thing.
