Well now that we know the lists, I re-did my expansion draft. Where there have been reported or rumored deals with Vegas, I selected the player rumored to be going there (i.e. Fleury, Vatanen, Calvert). I selected a mix of veterans to help the team right away, and some young prospects that are close to contributing. I did NOT select any pending UFAs for ease of this exercise. Only RFAs or players under contract were selected. The total cap hit is $72 million, but that's with all the players listed and not the final roster. Here's what I ended up with for a lineup:

Mike Cammalleri-Tomas Plekanec-James Neal
Jonathan Marchessault-Cody Eakin-Michael Grabner
Matt Calvert-Marcus Kruger-Lee Stempniak
Pierre-Edouard Bellemare-Mikhail Grigorenko-Dmitrij Jaskin

Minors: Hunter Shinkaruk, Nick Shore, Kerby Rychel, William Carrier, Teemu Pulkinnen, Brendan Gaunce

Sami Vatanen-Marc Methot
Calvin de Haan-Toby Enstrom
Adam McQuaid-Matt Dumba
David Schlemko

Minors: Mark Fayne, Slater Koekkoek

Marc-Andre Fleury-Petr Mrazek

Minors/Trade bait: Philipp Grubauer

Quite frankly, this is a pretty solid team that could be on the playoff bubble if things go well. There's lot of flexibility as almost everyone is on a 1 or 2 year deal.

That's a decent team. Not a last place team.for sure.

Edit: also they have that Russian they picked up. Not sure they would take Fayne.

Yeah, but I have no idea who to take from Edmonton. It's him, Pakarinen, or Khaira.

The TSN guys predicted it would be Reinhart.

I think I might be in the minority when it comes to Vegas and what they will choose initially. I doubt they go more than 3 or 4 million over the cap and instead grab a mix of vets but mostly inexpensive guys that are easily dealt elsewhere or able to be sent to the AHL.

My go at this thing..

F

Bobby Ryan
Josh Bailey
Matt Stajan
Jimmy Hayes
Riley Sheahan
Kyle Clifford
Joaquim Nordstrom
Marko Dano
Jonathon Marchessault
Colton Sissons
Beau Bennett
Brenden Gaunce
Alexander Burmistrov
Ty Rattie
Mikhail Grigorenko

D

Josh Georges
Brendan Dillon
Matt Dumba
Brandon Davidson
Martin Marincin
Josh Manson
Trevor Van Riemsdyk
Jamie Oleksiak
Griffin Reinhart
Andrej Sustr

G

Marc Andre Fleury
Micael Neuvirth
Antti Rantaa
Joonas Korpisalo
Philip Grubauer

Cap hit 47,345,000

Cap room 25,655,000

9 guys are RFA which changes cap hit etc.

Forwards:

J Neal
E Staal + incentive to leave Dumba
A Radulov (early UFA...seems like a top end guy who would like Vegas)

D Perron
J Marchessault
Matt Moulson

M Read
C Eakin
L Stempniak

M Calvert + incentive
M Kruger + incentive
M Dano

A Burmistrov

Defense:

S. Vatanen - minus incentive
M Methot
A Mcquaid
C De Haan + incentives
J Merril
A Sustr
D Schlemko
N Schmidt + incentives

A few of the above Defencemen probably flipped for waiver exempt assets. Vegas might even take a run at some UFA defensemen.

Goalies:

M. Fleury

P. Mrazeck
A Rantaa
C. Pickard

Two of the 3 goalies above flipped to Arz/Phi/Cgy/Wpg

Minors:

H Shinkaruk
B Gaunce
N Shore
K Rychel
G Reinhardt

I'll find it funnier if Vegas DOESN'T take Reinhart.

An expansion team in dire need of good young assets won't even take for free what Chiarelli gave up a 1st and 2nd round pick for just two years earlier.

Here's what I whipped up taking into account most of the rumors I've heard so far. I don't quite know if the selections will be legal under the cap but once the spare parts are traded away, the team is cap compliant.

Cammalleri-Shipachyov-Radulov
Perron-Staal-Neal
Grigorenko-Karlsson-Stempniak
Dano-Burmistrov-Grabner
Weal, Brouwer (can't even make an expansion team's starting 12, sigh)

Kerby Rychel and Anton Rodin taken with intention of sending to minors
Jared Boll taken on condition to not take Vatanen/Manson in exchange for Sam Steel, Boll then sent to minors

Methot-Demers
CDH-TVR
Schlemko-C. Miller
Sustr

McNabb and Kulikov taken with intent to be traded for waiver eligible prospects (Logan Stanley could be a good target since the Jets need LD in the worst way)
CDH taken on condition to not touch NYI forwards in exchange for undetermined package
Reinhart taken with intention of sending to minors

Fleury
Lehtonen (taken in a trade that involves a swap of 6 and 3)

Grubauer and Mrazek taken with intention to trade (Grubauer could be included in the 3/6 pick swap deal, Mrazek likely to Arizona for a good prospect (Christian Fischer?))

The starting 23 comes in at $73.775M which is just under the cap, and it could be even less if they decide against taking Brouwer or can't figure out the 3/6 pick swap and keep Grubauer instead of the $6M Lehtonen.

I believe that (if this is legal) this team could seriously go deep in the playoffs as soon as this year, and if they draft well enough, they could be sustainably good as well.

Prospects would include:
Steel
Stanley
Fischer
Rodin
#3OA
likely some other firsts (CBJ and NYI likely)
#34OA
and the remainder of their picks

Plus you have 5 right shooting NHL Dmen on that roster, and I'd be happy to see the Flames acquire any one of them except Bogosian.

I thought about Johns or Oleksiak, Stars may potentially protect only one
Boston - D, could be McQuaid or Miller
NYR could protect Grabner, and if so then Oscar Lindberg

I also considered they may take a flier on Yakupov ( StL) or Cammalleri (NJD) if they are exposed.

Maybe they go cheaper and younger on a few more slots because I picked a lot of middle of the road NHLers and they could add in free agency as well

Thought I would compare my guesses from April to what really happened. 6/30

I blame the side deals!

I guess I had a different philosophy from GMGM. I actually wanted the best NHL roster possible. He wasn't interested in winning for years and years by stocking up on draft picks.

I only guessed right on 9/30 picks, but at least I got some of the prospect picks correct.
