Am curious if they are any teams that have open spots for player protection in the expansion draft.

so shrewd to coach his team to last overall and a lottery win...

@CraigCustance: Oilers among the interested in Jaroslav Halak. Could see Flames & Bruins in there too. Islanders would have to retain salary though.

If they go out and get Halak after what Bishop went for I won't be too happy
I'm fine with sticking with our guys who have earned it of late but if they were gonna make a move they should have targeted the vezina finalist that went for next to nothing

Halak passed through waivers not a month ago. Why would he have value.

Retained salary could make a difference.
Halak at $4.5M is no good, Halak at $2.25M is really good.
IMO he is notoriously underrated. Has a .916 career save percentage and outside of a bad start to the season has been a good goalie at every stop.

He ripped up the AHL. Has some solid playoff success. I'm assuming if he is traded, a significant portion of his salary will be retained

Agreed. I want no part of Halak. If we were going to get a goalie, Bishop was the goalie to get.

For me if we are taking on Halak I want salary retention and I want a player like Strome coming back as well

It makes me smile that Commodore tweets re-posted here are still getting serious responses

Be that as it may, it's been repeated many times here that he's just spewing. Not sure why his tweets keep getting posted on here.

Halak has really good stats, I do sometimes wonder what is going on the behind the scenes that makes teams sour on him.
Regular Season
Bishop- GP: 263 SV PCT: .919
Halak- GP: 388 SV PCT: .916
Playoffs:
Bishop: GP: 36 SV PCT: .927 (4th among active goalies)
Halak: GP: 30 SV PCT: .924 (5th among active goalies)
If you can get the Islanders to cover a chunk of that Salary going through the end of the season with Elliot and Halak would be an improvement, and Halak at $2.5M -$3.0M next year wouldn't be much of an issue IMO.
It's actually pretty crazy when you think about it, look at Career NHL Save Percentage leaders (active goalies):
Schneider: .923
Rask: .923
Holtby: .922
Lundqvist: .920
Price: .920
Bishop: .919
Luongo: .919
Bobrovsky: .918
Crawford: .918
Rinne: .917
Dubnyk: .917
Halak: .916
Varlamov: .916
Quick: .916
Considering the rest of those guys are all considered as bonafide #1 elite goalies, it kind of feels like a "One of these things is not like the other" situation. For me though one more year of Halak looks way more appealing than 2 more years of MA Fleury.
