Default False alarm: Situation at YYC airport resolved

Lucas Meyer @meyer_lucas
Developing: apparent heavy police presence at Calgary airport:business owner just called to say some of his staff were told to evacuate #yyc

unconfirmed: but some rumblings of an active shooter situation on twitter

edit: looks like there is nothing to see here

News Update

Calgary Police @CalgaryPolice
The situation at the #YYC Airport is resolved. The call we received has been determined as unfounded. There are no public safety concerns.

We were just told there's an active shooter and told to hide. Told it was likely under control.

Our plane was just approaching the gate when the plane stopped and the pilot announced we'd be holding short due to a security breach. Kinda scary. Started moving again within 5 minutes which was a relief.

I kept wondering if this was some kind of drill just based around the information about the call that we've seen.

Or some sociological experiment pulled off with the Airports knowledge.

I doubt that they catch the caller who used VOIP to call it in and was probably at the airport to watch the fun.

I guess he also called in a car on fire false alarm.

I could see a false alarm for a "possibly armed suspect" or "armed suspect", but that's the absurdity of social media that we could actually get reports of an active shooter (meaning someone is actively shooting) and then find out it was nothing.

They apparently announced "active shooter situation" on the PA system at the airport. Not surprised it spread.

Oh wow, yeah that makes sense then. Btw, wasn't suggesting you were wrong to report what you saw on twitter, just that it got the point of being called an active shooter situation. Makes sense now, thanks.

Would that not cause people to panic?

I flew out yesterday and must have just missed it. However some of my family was there a bit later and said they hid in the washroom. Glad nothing came of it.
