Is there a reason I can't think of why someone wouldn't qualify David Rittich?

I don't get how people think Stone will take 3x3.

I don't trust either Gillies or Rittich to handle the backup spot next season. Gillies had only one full season in the AHL and wasn't exactly lights out. Rittich was better but also doesn't have enough experience. Need room for Parsons in the AHL next season. Simply no room for Rittich.

I dunno. You sign the guy out of the Czech league and bring him over to the AHL where he puts up 2.27 / 0.924 with 5 shut outs in 31 games in his first season in NA I think you need to see where it goes. The guy couldn't really have done much more.

I guess we'll see.

I just don't see Treliving leaving the backup spot for Gillies/Rittich to battle over. That's really the only way they could keep Rittich. Seems too risky for a team that will have a lot of pressure to improve on their first round exit this season. I wouldn't be against if Treliving decides to do it but if your #1 goes down long term... eek you better hope one of those guys are actually ready for prime time.

That's what I'm wondering too.
He's in his prime earning years, and while he didn't put up points like he has in the past, he's shown he can probably be a top 4 guy somewhere. I don't see him taking a million dollar pay cut, which is why I don't think we should bring him back.

I think with Treliving taking about a push from the bottom, I'm not sure we'll see a lot of free agents back

No. Was solid in Stockton. Outplayed Gillies for most of the season. Possible NHL backup next season.

UFA
Kris Versteeg - he'll probably want a raise from his 950 k contract and some term. 2 years 1.8
Dennis Wideman - nope
Deryk Engelland - I think he'll be a big of a commidity as a UFA, and I doubt he'll come back here without a good deal. I also really don't want to pay him at his current rate. So I'd be tempted to let him go and fill his spot with Andersson.
Michael Stone - yes if we can sign him after the expansion draft. He's probably going to barrier at 4.5 for 4 years.
Brandon Bollig - nope
Brian Elliott - nice guy but he's done here.
Chad Johnson - offer him another 1 year deal at 1.7
Mike Kostka

RFA
Sam Bennett 2 years at 2 million will probably be ok for both or 3 years at 2.5
Curtis Lazar - I'd be tempted to say QO
Micheal Ferland - 3 years at 2.8 could be a bargain contract
Alex Chiasson - 2 years at 1 million
David Rittich - nope,
Kenney Morrison - nope
Jon Gillies qualifying option
Linden Vey - nope
Garnet Hathaway - qualify
Ryan Culkin - qualify
Brett Kulak - qualify
Tyler Wotherspoon - I doubt he accepts his qualifying offer

Who do you bring back?

For those that put stock in such things, Stone's advanced stats really weren't great with Calgary. In fact, Wideman's personal CF% prior to the deadline was better than Stone's post trade deadline, and Brodie's CF% was better with Wideman than with Stone. I wouldn't offer him a long term deal without kicking some other tires.

Interesting.

Seems to me most defensive Dmen don't have great Corsi or possession stats. Is it just the style they play or are their some non point getting defensive Dmen out there that actually have great possession stats?

Also, you look around to find a good top 4 right shot Dman to pair with Brodie that would be an upgrade on Stone and it's like looking for a needle in a hay stack.

I'd love to get Manson but I can't see that ever happening. Who else is really out there?

Vlasic (though he got better at offense), Hjalmarsson, Tanev, Stralman all dominate fancy stats without putting up huge point totals.

Vancouver seems to really want to trade Tanev but I have no idea what they'd want for him. I would love him on the Flames.

UFA
Kris Versteeg - maybe, depends on cost and other FA options
Dennis Wideman - no
Deryk Engelland - maybe, depends on cost and other FA options
Michael Stone - yes if he will sign for the same or less than this season
Brandon Bollig - no
Brian Elliott - probably not, not because of the playoffs though but because of the toxity of the situation and the way fans are trying to push him out of town
Chad Johnson - maybe, depends who we have starting
Mike Kostka - maybe for the Heat on an AHL deal

RFA
Sam Bennett - yes, unless he can be traded in a package a legit top end player
Curtis Lazar - seems unlikely he wouldn't
Micheal Ferland - yes
Alex Chiasson - probably, but if Brouwer doesn't get claimed and with teh addition of Lazar, I'm not sure there is room
David Rittich - probbaly, but he could be moved to make room for Parsons if Gillies isn't in the plans for the Flames at the back-up position
Kenney Morrison - no
Jon Gillies - yes
Linden Vey - maybe on an AHL deal
Garnet Hathaway - yes
Ryan Culkin - no
Brett Kulak - yes
Tyler Wotherspoon - yes
