PSA: Let's Not Mess This Up. DST Year Round
Looks like we're about to get serious discussions about changing the clocks. Here's the big problem, people automatically default to
saying let's get rid of daylight saving time, when in actuality the majority of people you talk to who say that really want us to stay on daylight saving time, and not switch back to standard.
http://www.cbc.ca/beta/news/canada/c...lish-1.3901292
If you mess with my 11pm natural light skies in June, and force us to stay with 4:30pm dark skies in December...argh
Come on CP, let's take control of this debate!

I support this bill, and I also await CP's faithful to spin this into NDP buffoonery!

The NDP silliness on CP is so annoying. It boils down to three types of posting on our provincial government...
- Actual discussion about real issues with the NDP government regardless of the fact that CP is more conservative than the average source of people
- Those that are out to blame the NDP for everything
- Those that mock any and all criticism of the NDP with "thanks NDP" type posts, exasperating the absolute inability to rationally discuss Alberta politics on CP.
In this case you're adding to the problem before anyone has even said anything. This stuff needs to stop on both sides, imo. We sound like a bunch of Red and Blue Americans and it makes reading local politics unbearable on a site that is ripe with intelligent posters with vast knowledge. It's such a waste.

So do you support keeping MST or MDT year round?
The article states that they need to consult with the public on which one to keep.
Maybe a poll would be interesting:
MDT means sunset in the 11pm territory during June and 5:30pm in December (great summer nights, and no more drive home in the dark)
MST means sunset at 10pm in June and 4:30pm in December. (Earlier summer sunset and dark all the time winters...no bias here)

Wouldn't keeping day light savings time go hand in hand with the environmental thing by adjusting the time so people are using less power?

There's many opinions, but I believe we actually fall into Pacific Daylight time.
Personally I want less hours of sun in the morning and more in the evening.

I'm in favor of the one where it is light in the evening in the winter.
Put me down as someone who hates time changes though. With 2 little kids it literally (used correctly) wrecks my life for a week when the time change occurs.

Don't tell PepsiFree!!!!
I get why PespiFree says that, but I would like to point out that I think he's wrong on my intentions. I don't do it because it's fun to point out people's posting habits, or because I'm trying to be a crappy poster. I do it because I am not very knowldgable on a number of topics, and use CP to get up to date and understand things I don't.
So I try to let people know when I think they're getting in the way of great discussion on CP, so the good posters can keep going. I fully realize that by adding my own two cents I'm also adding to the poor posting, though.

I heard them talking about it on TV this morning. They said to repeal it, but go on Central Standard Time, which would be the same as Mountain Daylight Time. The only negative is kids going to school in the dark in the winter if this is enacted.

I don't really care which time we use, but can I vote to just get rid of the time change?

I know it's technically the same, but call it Mountain Daylight time permanently, instead of central standard time.
My preference is, as I've said before:
Current system > permanent MDT >>>> permanent MST.

It's still dark under standard time. Who cares if it's an extra hour while they're in the classroom? I'd rather be able to get an hour of daylight after work in the evening.

Move your June sunset times both back an hour. 10 pm for MDT, and 9 pm for MST.

We should just make it up as we go to better suit ourselves, goddammit! Alberta "time" is now whatever works best for us on any given day to give us the most light for activities.
"Hey, Jim, you're late from Toronto for our meeting"
"What, it's 8am"
"No, the sun rose at 8:20, so the province announced 9am will be at 8am today. There's a very easy table online for this, I'm not impressed with your tardiness".

I'm not sure how one could even back this statement up. Are fans of the NHL hockey team in Calgary who have computers and post to a message board disproportionately conservative compared to the rest of Alberta? I'd actually argue the opposite position based on this board.

If you time-change whiners end up costing me my bright summer evenings, I'm going postal. I'll suffer through dark December mornings much more readily than short summer nights.
Serious question here: if a one hour change "wrecks" your life, how do you possibly deal with the occasional event where you have to wake up early or stay up a little late? Avoid all events that interfere with bedtime?
