Well, no, that was intentional. I think it would be a good fit for him to regain his confidence and produce more

For Versteeg, it is really going to depend on cost and term. On a short "show me" deal, he was great, but he has an inconsistent history. We shouldn't forget that last season, he was all but out of the league until Edmonton gave him a PTO.

If Versteeg is going to get more than $2.5 million, I would be inclined to see what else is out there. And I suspect some team will offer him a lot.

Same thing with Stone really. He fit pretty good last season, but I don't see him as a $4 million player on the Flames. You can't spend that on a 5th/6th defenseman, and I don't suspect he will want to take a big pay cut.

Too high? Too low? Might be on the high side, but a 3 year deal buys one year of unrestricted free agency and he has arbitration rights.

Never thought about a year of unrestricted.
Yes. I thought it high, but I dunno.

Call me crazy, but Ferland is one of those players I would try to get locked down for term with minimal cash. I think his skill set is unique and he has yet to hit his peak. I have a feeling in 3 years he will require Brouwer/Frolik money.

5/6 years, $2.9/per.

Bennet, Lazar, Ferland, Gillies, Rittich, Hathaway, Kulak are the RFAs I'd bring back. And I'm undecided on Ferland

The problem is guys that play Ferland's style tend to break down suddenly. The human body can only withstand that kind of punishment for so long..

That's why I like that we didn't see playoff Ferland after that first appearance. The guy can fly and has great hands and a great shot. Also absolutely lit it up in the WHL. Can't wear yourself down with 10 hits a night. I hope he develops into a more of a top 6 power forward, than a bottom 6 slugger.

Are you serious?

You wouldnt bring back Ferland? Is pot legal today?

Ferland is an RFA, you qualify him then sign him. Even if you dont like Ferland you still sign him. Otherwise you are just throwing assets away for nothing.

I think if Treliving put a tweet out on twitter saying we want a third round pick for Ferland he would get 30 tweets back from GM's around the league saying "Done".

I dont know what Ferland will be, but he has alot of value at this moment.

Personally I think this will be his break out season. I think he figures out the player he is.

Playoff Ferland was so fun to watch against Vancouver. Guys got way more skill than that though. Gonna be a long time till we see that type of playoff performance from a player. You can not play that way in the league and survive.

If we can get a third of that aggressiveness on a regular basis, and the skill Ferland has shown in flashes, he will have a great season.

He is not slow, he has a wicked shot, tough as nails. My only question here is hockey IQ. If he has it this will be his breakout season, if he doesn't he will be a talented third line grinder.
