I hated that place. Every time I went it was full of idiots lollygagging around. Driving in and out of it sucked. Navigating around with a cart sucked. The lines were eternal. Once I discovered Golden Acres I never went back. But I'm sad it is closing because all the strugglers are going to flood my not busy place now. Boo to that.

For me all the other big garden centres involve driving across town so I'm a bit sad, but luckily I'm done most of my landscaping overhaul. The sheer variety they kept in stock doesn't seem to be matched by anyone else in that area of the city.
I never found it a big problem getting in and out. The cart issue I'll agree with, usually I'd end up leaving my cart in the main aisle while I went to look at plants down the smaller aisles.

Sad to hear, this was our go to place in the NW as well. Tried Golden Acres on occasion and I just don't care for that place or location.

Its time to bump this thread.
Can you guys recommend someone who might good (and cheap) for 'powerraking'?
My lawn looks just awful, and just don't have the time (energy) to go rent one and do it myself.
Thanks

If we're still in for some below zero nights, can I seed my lawn yet?

I can't wait to seed my new to me lawn, currently it's patchy and gross. I just hand raked all the crap up. It's clear to me the previous owner did not care much for the lawn. I have 2 huge spruce trees on a small front yard that just shed those needles everywhere. I suspect the bed of dead needles I just raked up was not helping the grass much. I'd really like to have 1 tree removed and trim the other one way back but that's not really in the budget this year.

do I need a permit to lawn work?
Need my front lawn dug out probably 8" by bobcat with new screened loam and sod put in and going to install a single zone sprinkler.

No, but you might want to call Alberta 1 call. 8" isn't very deep, but if you have a valve one your lawn or something you can't see, you will at least be aware of aware to be cautious. It is free.

Not might, you ‘need’ to call. Any ground disturbance you should have your utilities marked.

Old guy tip...
if you have your utilities marked, find a copy of your Real property Report, google earth a shot of your backyard, or just make a sketch showing where everything is.
Thus the next time you have a project all your info is right there instead of having one call come out again.
