The BBC iPlayer app has downloads to watch offline, and it is great. I'm glad that Netflix has rolled this out. Hopefully most (and eventually all) titles are available for offline viewing.

How long do you get to keep the downloaded copy for? I'm assuming once you've finished watching it, it auto deletes?

No increase in price, that's awesome. The already good value of Netflix just got a ton better.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't keep it for as long as you're a subscriber.

It would be the same as apple music. I DL'd music that worked offline but as soon as I cancelled my subscription it knew and they all became unavailable.

You have to manually delete watched episodes.

Also to note the app defaults to "standard quality" downloads. So if you have space be sure to change it to "high". A "high quality" 60min file is around 1GB.

Bunch of surprising movies hit Netflix today.well for me at least

Back to the future
Mission Impossible
Jurassic Park
Top Gear season 22 minus the Australian special.

Plus many more seems to be a huge drop of quality stuff.

Happens sometimes. They use the international title or something maybe.

10 Cloverfield Lane is called Valencia on Canadian Netflix.

I am pretty sure 10 Cloverfield Lane is named appropriately in Netflix.

Anyway, cool to see E.T. show up. Such fond memories.

No it's not. I just watched it a couple of weeks ago.

Yes it is. Or was anyway. I watched it when it was first added to Netflix and it was listed as Valencia. I even had to google what the hell valencia was because I thought it must be a mistake. Turns out it was a previous working title.

Go search Valencia in Netflix. 10 Cloverfield Lane comes up. But when you click on it, it now shows the proper title.

Just noticed they added a few good old Universal movies. First 3 Jurassic Parks are on there, back to the future, ET. Can't wait to watch them all

I like JP3.

I don't get the problem with the 10 second dream sequence.

"A talking dinosaur?! With the voice of his friend?!"

It's a freaking dream.

At least the plot is a little different. The rest have all been: There's a big corporation doing bad things and making dinosaurs. Dinosaurs eat people eventually.

I like all the JP movies.

Ottawa considering taxing Netflix:

Quote:
OTTAWA, ON. (NEWS 1130) – Consumer rights groups aren’t happy after hearing news that the Trudeau government may be considering the possibility of a so-called ‘Netflix tax.’

Right now, Canadian streaming services are forced to charge sales taxes to their customers, but that isn’t the case for more popular internationally based sites such as Netflix or Amazon Prime.

There are reports that briefing notes for the federal heritage minister show the government is considering the option forcing these groups to tax Canadian customers, which is upsetting to Bruce Cran with the Consumers’ Association of Canada. “Any new tax is a problem for everybody. This just seems like another burden that they want to put on the backs of consumers. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous they are even considering something like this.”

He adds it’s a slippery slope when government begins trying to tax every service on the Internet. “That could open more doors in the future where similar things could be treated in the same manner.”

The federal finance minister’s office doesn’t deny this is an option on the table, stressing the department regularly assesses the tax system to make sure it’s fair and fiscally responsible.

Bias aside, why should Netflix or Prime get special treatment.

Yes, I am a Netflix subscriber.

I don't understand why there isn't an online or specialty channel like Netflix that basically has every movie ever made available? Like a giant video library/movie store that either charges a monthly fee or a certain price per movie. The thing I absolutely loath is when I rediscover an old movie and log on Netflix, Shaw on Demand or Telus Optik TV and non of them carry it (The Last Samurai as an example this past weekend). I don't care about the price, why aren't these movies available? This RGMG.

I'd rather they didn't tax Netflix, although I agree they shouldn't get special treatment. I'd be perfectly fine with them working out some agreement where in lieu of that they get Netflix to agree to purchase additional CanCon over and above what they currently provide.
