Very excited to see this in my hometown, 400 million dollar project looks like its back on in Winnipeg. I don't think it's quite as ambitious or big as Edmontons project, but, still looks really cool for a city sized like Winnipeg.
I wonder what the Flames have in store? Gotta think they're looking at stuff like this and planning on something similar. Where would the most logical place be for something like this?

No, the Flames won't be doing anything at all like this. There have been no rumors of an entertainment district to go along with a new arena, practice facility, football stadium, and field house. Winnipeg is obviously well ahead of the curve and there is no way Calgary would ever be forward thinking to do something like this. Winnipeg is just so superior to Calgary in every way.
I think he was looking for a discussion. i agree it should be in the arena thread
It was my original thought but I then figured if I did that it would be weird in a Calgary arena thread to put a Winnipeg project. I'd be fine with this thread being merged into that one

Just like how it would be weird to start a Winnipeg thread on a Calgary forum
Jebus... a lot of ridiculous, silly derision in this thread already. But having lived in The 'Peg for several years, I can see that area specifically, as being something really interesting. Let's face it, the country is electrified by the (useless) Pan-Am games in Toronto right now; so there is no reason why that particular part of Winnipeg can't become a special area similar to Olympic Plaza in Calgary.
I love it.
The country is electrified by the Pan-Am games right now?
They can't even sell all the tickets.
No, the Toronto media is electrified with the games. People are talking about the perennial loser Jays right now more that the games. The games are like the All-star gamr. Great fun for the host city, but no one elsr gives two...
As far ad the project goes right now, looks cool and I hope it happens. But projects like that get cut away until they are a fraction of the original proposal. Plus Calgary also has meeting areas like Olympic Plaza, and a whole new arena complex on the drawing board.
As I said, I hope it happens. But I know Winnipeg very well, and I'll be amazed if it rivals amything we have or end up with
Good for Winnipeg I guess. Residents can't complain about the new facilities that have been built over the last decade and while they are never going to have a big downtown there's nothing wrong with trying to spruce it up. I have to say it's kind of strange seeing cities like Edmonton and Winnipeg outpace Calgary in facilities.
