Chris Johnston @reporterchris
Sean Couturier's six-year extension with #flyers carries a $5.5M AAV.
edit:
Chris Johnston @reporterchris
Apologies on Couturier -- did the math wrong. Six year deal carries $4.33M AAV.

Couturier is one of the top shut down centres in the league, but DAMN is that a lot of money.

Apparently it's actually $4.33 million AAV.
Which actually makes sense.

It's not 5.5. Friedman is reporting six years at 4.3

Is he? I don't watch Philly games, but come on.. usually you have to chip in offensively to get paid, and he's mid to low end on offence.

Two decent seasons where he put up:
13-26-39
15-22-37
Should have gotten a 2 year bridge contract with about a $2.5M AAV, IMO.
This is flat out insane. Beyond Oiler-esque.
Edit: well, $4.3M is a lot less crazy - especially for 6 years

5.5 would have been insane. 4.3 is a little better.

Yea, he's elite defensively. Consistently gets buried in defensive zone starts against top competition and does fairly well.

Yeah, the 6 years makes up for the AAV. Expensive now, great deal for the UFA years

This.
There's a reason he always gets invited to world championships
I do think the staffs reliance on his defensive game had hampered his offensive game though.
As with all Long term contracts, must keep in mind where you think his game will be in 4-6 years, as well as inflation of both the dollar and the salary cap. Looks like a good deal to me.

You'll be happy to know his 2 year bridge contract was only $1.75m. this is his 3rd contract.

Great contract IMO. By the way, the deal starts in 2016 ... he still has a year left on his current contract ($1.75m). Couturier is a great young two-way center, I bet this deal looks like a steal in a few years.
